Job Description

Through the Idaho HealthCorps AmeriCorps program, Idaho State University’s Institute of Rural Health places members across the state to address the health needs of Idaho’s low-income children and families in rural underserved areas. AmeriCorps members will be responsible for providing health education and health screening activities, which will result in improved access to health care in Idaho. In addition, the AmeriCorps members will leverage additional community volunteers who will be engaged in assisting the AmeriCorps members at their placement sites. Many Idaho residents are from rural, low income and underserved areas and face significant health care challenges. Families from low-income backgrounds are often uninsured, may have language barriers, and often lack access to health care due to lack of transportation, income or limited health literacy. As a result, the Idaho HealthCorps AmeriCorps member service locations stretch across most areas of the state.


Member Duties : Their main objective will be to educate community members about the significance of adopting healthier lifestyle choices. Key responsibilities for this role will involve arranging suitable locations for educational sessions and recruiting participants. Moreover, once trained, the team member will have the opportunity to instruct children and families on topics such as cultivating microgreens and improving nutrition. Tasks may include putting together gardening kits, developing curriculum materials for nutrition classes, and providing assistance at other IRH events. Additionally, the member will be responsible for establishing and managing various social media channels to support program participants.Member will have access to vulnerable populations. Member will not participate in prohibited activities. Member will not supplement, duplicate, or displace staff members at the host site.
