Overview of Position:

Functions as a part of the surgical team to provide care and supervision in the intra-operative phase of surgical procedures using knowledge of instrumentation and equipment to ensure the best possible outcome for each patient. This includes all areas of Surgical Services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Assists all Surgical Services staff with any questions regarding equipment or instrumentation. Contacts appropriate resource if the issue cannot be resolved.
2. Works with the Materials Management Department to maintain an adequate inventory of supplies for upcoming procedures. Determines par levels based on historical use, keeping in mind projected growth when appropriate.
3. Reviews OR schedule weekly to plan for procedural needs, and daily to check for any changes or added procedures. Communicates any potential problems to management immediately
4. Collaborates with surgeons to standardize supplies and equipment.
5. Meets with new surgeons prior to their arrival to assist with development of initial preference cards. Involves purchasing in this meeting to answer any questions that might arise regarding vendors and any contractual agreements that are relevant.
6. Works closely with vendors to ensure needed instrumentation, implants and special equipment are available and supported as requested by surgeons.
7. Knowledgeable of surgical procedures and processes. Serve as a resource to staff, answering any questions they may have regarding instrumentation, equipment or procedures.
8. Research new product requests from surgeons. Responsible to initiate paperwork and submit to CQVA for approval.
9. Anticipate biologic needs for upcoming cases. Order, receive and track all biologics for all surgical specialties. Complete tracking paperwork upon receipt, as well as tissue tracking upon completion of case.
10. Attend CQVA, OR operations, Robotics, and other meetings as requested by leadership.
11. Identify educational opportunities, including but not limited to equipment and procedures. Work with clinical educator to arrange necessary training. Assist with yearly competencies and new equipment in-services.
12. Anticipate end of life issues with equipment. Prepare Capital Request paperwork.
13. Research and order replacement parts for equipment. Work with biomed and/or service tech to resolve the issue. If new or replacement equipment is necessary, work with Purchasing and sales representative to evaluate options and determine best course of action based on current equipment condition.
14. Monitors schedule on a continual basis throughout the day for changes. This includes an 8:15 huddle to look at two days out, a 13:45 huddle to lock cases in for the following day, work with schedulers throughout the day to avoid equipment and supply conflicts.
15. Monitor equipment conflicts. Work with Management to rearrange procedure lineups when necessary to accommodate equipment/instrument conflicts and communicate changes to all effected parties.
16. Responsible to check-in instrument trays, ensuring the appropriate instruments are assigned to the scheduled cases. Monitor implant and instrument tray for all specialties.

QUALIFICATIONS
1. Three (3) years of clinical operating room experience or three (3) years of purchasing experience specifically for surgical equipment and supplies.
2. High School Diploma or equivalent.
3. Knowledgeable of anatomy and physiology
4. Interest and ability to learn required psychomotor skills
5. Must have good interpersonal skills (talking, listening, patience, judgment, initiative, ability to relate with others).

4. On occasion must be able to lift up to 50 pounds or move heavy equipment.
