Job Description

Are you a dynamic leader with a passion for optimizing operational efficiency? Keller Warehousing & Co-Packing is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Operations to join our team and drive excellence in our warehousing and co-packing services. Our headquarters is located in Defiance, OH, with warehouses located in multiple states, reflecting our ongoing growth and expansion. The position is either fully remote or hybrid, and the ideal candidate should be based in the Midwest.

Job Summary: The 3PL Director of Operations is responsible for delivering defined scopes of work and service levels to the clients within a region at prescribed profit levels and growth projections. This is a customer facing role. This includes providing operational oversight and administration to include strategic planning, budgeting, AP/AR, sourcing and purchasing, compliance, corporate governance, human resources, safety, and enabling technology. To be successful, the incumbent must provide sales support to define scope, onboard and stabilize new business.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Customer and employee satisfaction and retention. Improve satisfaction through policy, process, and or procedural changes.
  • Region growth and profitability; Develop and execute growth directives or savings initiatives with commercial account owner (generally Sales), Solutions resources, or other company resources.
  • Commission the development of customer analytics to include volume metrics, SOW, SOPs, KPIs, and SLAs; Prepare for and chair periodic operational account reviews with customer.  
  • Secure and socialize periodic forecasts (customer SIOP reports) to spot changes to demand expectations. Know and socialize customer strategy and pain points. 
  • Administration and management of customer complaints, break/fix, claims and disputes; Follow up with corrective action plans.  
  • Establish metrics, guidelines, and standards to evaluate trends and make process improvements.
  • Corporate governance: Work with department heads - Safety, HR, Finance, IT, Legal, and Marketing - to ensure compliance. Communicate, support, and explain new directives, policies, and procedures to employees. Provide insight and content.
  • Close alignment with commercial account owner of customer to update CRM, manage scope creep, contract management, pursue new business and develop communication strategies.          
  • Optimize business workflows and communications both internal and external.
  • Oversee startup and continuous improvement events to deliver service and profitability. 
  • Highlight and deploy new company policies to drive performance.
  • Project a positive image of the organization to employees, customers, industry, and community.
  • Plans, directs, controls, implements, evaluates, monitors, and forecasts budgets and cost of sales to achieve financial objectives.
  • Work closely with the human resources to manage human capital: create job descriptions, hire competent personnel, evaluate talent, oversee training programs, develop people, and hold employees accountable.  
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough understanding of supply chain operational practices, theories, and policies. 
  • Working knowledge of warehouse management systems (WMS) and related integration.  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills - verbal, non-verbal, and written - with a high emotional intelligence.
  • Superior managerial and diplomacy skills.
  • Proved methodology for managing change.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Knowledge of industry legal rules and guidelines.

Additional Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience managing regional P&L or cost center of $10M+ annually; budgeting and forecasting.  
  • 3PL experience designing, selling, and standing up distribution solutions to include defining scope, building labor models, determining bottom-up operational costs, illustrating and presenting solutions, closing 3PL business, and delivering the agreed scope and service levels.     
  • 3PL experience managing a region with many clients and or multi-client distribution centers.   
  • Four-year degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistics, or equivalent experience. 
  • Extensive and diversified physical distribution background with 10+ years of related experience.
  • Prior experience with the following services a plus: vendor managed inventory, eCommerce fulfillment, intermodal, drayage, NVOCC, freight forwarding, manufacturing support, packaging, repacking, co-packing, or manufacturing support.  
  • Travel is needed to monitor operations and lead team: ~ 30% depending upon need. 

Working Conditions:

  • Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
  • Work may involve some lifting and operating powered industrial equipment.
  • PPE may include safety vests, steel toe shoes, hard hats, and hearing protection.
