Reports to: Director of Housing

Courage House is a QRTP (Qualified Residential Treatment Program) certified group home. The Resident Care Worker is responsible for directly supervising residents to ensure safety, executing program responsibilities, and implementing day to day activities that model healthy life skills. We are looking for individuals with strong interpersonal skills who are dedicated to positively impacting the lives of LGBTQ+ youth in out-of-home care, including those in foster care, juvenile delinquency situations, and other CHIPS and JIPS orders. These young individuals are navigating complex trauma and mental health challenges and Courage MKE is committed to operating through trauma informed care.

This is a non-exempt, full or part-time position for 1st, 2nd, and/or 3rd shifts. We operate staffed 24/7, therefore weekend availability is a must unless specified otherwise at the time of hire.

Essential Functions:

• Provide active supervision of youth at all times within assigned staffing ratios while implementing the daily activity schedule. (School attendance, chores, hygiene, scheduled program activities, meal time, et..)
• Facilitate engaging in constructive group educational and recreational activities.
• Model and coach appropriate behavior in community settings.
• Foster positive relationships with youth by serving as a role model while enacting strong professional boundaries.
• Engage with youth in a therapeutic manner, in accordance with established policies, procedures, and training, while upholding the agency’s values and mission.
• Maintain and document consistent communication with individuals and agencies outside of Courage House that provide services for or are associated with, the youth.
• Observe, assess, and document youth activities in accordance with licensing agency and program standards including but not limited to communication logs, incident reports, behavior management logs, and treatment plan entries.
• Maintain physical location to agency and licensing standards.

• Report any maintenance issues that are beyond your ability, to the Courage House Supervisor.

• Maintain confidentiality within all written and verbal communications.

• Provide transportation using the company vehicle or accompanied by public transportation as necessary to any appointments, activities and/or needs of residents in care.

• Obtain and track 24 hours of continuing education training and complete all other training and professional duties as assigned by the Director of Housing.

• Build positive rapport with youth to minimize crises and de-escalate crises when they occur.
• Demonstrate and involve residents with activities of daily living, including cooking, cleaning, and other house/yard maintenance as necessary.
• Administer, document, and count medications according to licensing procedure.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree (in the fields of Social Work, Sociology, Special Education, Psychology, Counseling and Guidance or Criminal Justice) or two years experience preferred. Previous experience working with LGBTQ+ individuals with a demonstrated competency of meeting the LGBTQ+ community’s needs, preferred but not required.

Must be at least 21 years of age. First Aid and CPR training preferred, required within six months of hire. Capable of transporting youth and possession of a valid driver’s license preferred. Background check and TB test required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is subject to sitting, walking, and standing for prolonged periods; frequently pushes, pulls, grasps, kneels, crouches, or crawls. The employee frequently is required to use manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination when working with persons served and handling office, medical, or household equipment. The employee is subject to assist and lifts up to 50 pounds with varying amounts of assistance on a recurring basis. The employee is required to have corrected vision and hearing within normal range and the ability to operate a motor vehicle. Must have the ability to perform CPR. Occupational exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious substances, including communicable diseases when performing personal care. Occasional exposure to cleaning agents and disinfectants. Residential work environment with a noise level of normal to loud. Compensation:

Hourly rate range: $17-$20. Full time employees receive a $150 a month reimbursement health stipend. PTO is accrued at the rate 0.0616 hours per hour worked. Time off paid for federal holidays and your birthday.
