Job Description

JOB PURPOSE: The Activities Therapy Manager is responsible for developing and coordinating the group clinical programming in the hospital with the overall goals of providing quality, evidence-based group programming to educate patients, reduce symptoms and increase healthy coping skills to maximize functioning.

The manager is responsible for oversight of all activity therapy staff, creating accurate and complete group scheduling to maintain regulatory compliance, completing and overseeing completion of group notes and activity assessments, as well as facilitating groups.

The manager is responsible for overseeing and driving mental health specialists to maintain accurate, thorough group notes and audit same used to develop patient goals and work as part of the multidisciplinary team.

The manager is responsible for conducting chart reviews, clinical observation in therapeutic groups, quality and performance improvement initiatives, audit and drive changes in group documentation as necessary, and other duties assigned by the Director of Clinical Services.

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant discipline with certification/license required (MT-BC, CTRS, ATR, OT/R, or other relevant license or certification).

Master’s Degree in Allied Health field preferred.

Experience: Three years related experience preferred.

CPR certified.

Technical Skills: Ability to communicate effectively through spoken word and in writing.

Age and Disability: Must possess knowledge and skills necessary to interact compassionately and appropriately with patients and their families on a regular basis.

Other: Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients.

The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status, interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit’s/area’s/department’s policies and procedures.

Interacts with patients, patient’s families and all internal departmentsEnvironmental Demands: Combination of physical and sedentary groups; rapid work pace requiring flexibility.

May work in noisy and congested areas.

May be exposed to violent patients and body fluids.

Essential Physical/Mental Demands: Ability to withstand a varying pace in a labile clinical setting.

Ability to prioritize workload.

Ability to respond physically to psychiatric crises and to lift weak and /or disabled patients.

Manual Dexterity Required: Ability to write legibly in patient charts.
