Springfield College invites applications for a part-time adjunct faculty position in the Exercise Science Department. Potential courses available include Introduction in Exercise Science, Introduction to Nutrition, Concepts of Personal Training, Sport Nutrition, Exercise for Special Populations.

AEXS 101: Introduction in Exercise Science (undergraduate)
Date/Time: Tuesday/Thursday 1:15PM – 2:30 PM
Course Description: This introductory course in Applied Exercise Science is designed for Applied Exercise Science majors. This course provides an overview to the field of applied exercise science. The student will gain exposure to various career options and the settings for professional practice. Introduction to the curriculum, policies and procedures for the major will be provided.

NUSC 261: Introduction to Nutrition (undergraduate)
Date/Time: Tuesday/Thursday 2:55 – 3:55 PM
Course Description: In this course students will discover how the body uses food by learning various functions of each key nutrient. An overview of digestion, absorption, and metabolism is provided. Food sources of the key nutrients and recommended intakes are explored in depth. The student's own diet is evaluated, using a computerized diet analysis.

AEXS 480: Concepts of Personal Training (undergraduate)
Date/Time: Tuesday/Thursday 8:00 AM – 9:15 AM
Course Description: This course is designed to prepare students for employment within the personal training and fitness industry. Emphasis will be placed on licensure and certification, marketing and finances, program design and implementation for a variety of populations, and motivational techniques. This course will prepare the student for the national certifications offered by the NSCA (NSCA-CPT) and the ACSM.

AEXS 540: Sport Nutrition (undergraduate/graduate)
Date/Time: Monday/Wednesday/Friday 9:00-9:50 AM OR Monday 7:00-9:50 PM
Course Description: This course focuses on the interrelationship between nutritional practices and human physical performance. Topics covered include the role of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, and water on performance. In addition, factors affecting body composition and weight control are covered.

AEXS 613: Exercise for Special Populations (graduate)
Date/Time: Tuesday/Thursday 9:25 AM – 10:40 AM
Course Description: This course provides an advanced level overview of the principles and practice of exercise testing and prescription in select special populations. Focus of the course is on exercise considerations for non-cardiac conditions. Laboratory exercises and clinical site visits are required.


  • Compensation for adjunct faculty with fewer than 3 years college teaching experience is $2820 for a 3-credit course
  • Compensation for adjunct faculty with 3 or more years college teaching experience is $3513 for a 3-credit course.

Qualifications

BA/BS required for all courses; MS, MA, or RD required for graduate courses. PhD or clinical doctorate preferred in areas related to Exercise Science and Nutrition.
