Job Description
Position Title: Adoptions Counselor Classification: Hourly/ Non-Exempt
Reports to: Adoptions Manager Schedule: Part-time or Full-time; schedule varies

Summary of Purpose: Ensure the daily care, comfort and cleanliness of the KHS animals and provide excellent customer service to all clients. Guide all potential adopters towards finding the animal most suitable for their lifestyle and expectations.

Duties (Essential Functions):
Provide a clean and sanitary environment for animals, including feeding, cleaning, disinfecting and re-vaccinating, as trained
Provide high quality customer service to all clients ensuring a positive customer experience
Accurately and efficiently process paperwork and monies collected on all adopted animals and merchandise
Monitor and order supplies (ie: cleaning supplies, pet food, medications) as needed from the shelter facility
Learn and adhere to all adoptions policies including documenting all movement of animals in PetPoint software system
Assist clients with animal adoption process; facilitates client/animal interactions to ensure a safe and pleasant experience
Complete requests for vet checks and behavior evaluations as needed for animals with medical or behavior concerns
Exercise, socialize and train animals as time allows
Support volunteers through positive communication, guidance and on-site training
Attend required meetings as scheduled
Other duties as assigned by a manager

Qualifications/Requirements:
General dog and cat knowledge preferred
Great interpersonal skills both in person and by phone with clients, staff and volunteers
Ability to work independently with little direct supervision
Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to process paperwork accurately and efficiently
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Basic computer knowledge
Punctual and dependable
Humane attitude towards animals
Ability to manage the emotional aspect of end of life services and humane euthanasia, and support staff in high-emotion circumstances
Accept, support, and represent KHS core values, programs, policies and procedures
Background Check required

Physical Demands/Working Environment:
Individual will have periods of sitting, talking and listening.
Frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, walking and standing on a regular basis while performing job functions.
Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to and exceeding 50 lbs.
Includes working in an indoor desk environment as well as working with animals in a kennel/shelter setting (indoor/outdoor) with potential for exposure to allergens, zoonotic diseases, and cleaning chemicals
Training Required After Employment: New Employee Orientation, Shelter Services Training
