Job Description

Under the General Supervision of the Fleet Transportation Coordinator, Adult Day Services (ADS) bus drivers are responsible for transporting participants to and from ADS and extracurricular events, following a scheduled route and ensuring the safety of all passengers.
Total Hours:8-20 weekly, Monday-Friday
Driving Hours: Approximately 7:00am-9:00am and/or 1:30pm-3:30pm + variable hours for driving to/from activities
Training hours, if applicable: Flexible

Responsibilities
  • Transport participants to and from the ADS facility and activities, as scheduled, in a safe and efficient manner
  • Conduct daily pre/post-trip inspection of vehicles, including checking vehicle fluid level
  • Maintain a clean and mechanically sound bus at all times
  • Assist with loading and unloading of participants
  • Secure wheelchairs at all tie-down points and fasten seatbelts and shoulder straps
  • Assure use of seat belts by all passengers AND the driver
  • Obey all traffic laws to ensure participants arrive to their destination safely
  • Notify appropriate persons of all vehicle defects in accordance with policy
  • Keep all safety-related equipment must in proper working order and stored when not in use
  • Carry bus bag with participant emergency information at all times
  • Complete appropriate form for all accidents, incidents, or seizures that involve passengers
  • Practice evacuation drills with persons served a minimum of one time per year
Education
  • High school diploma or GED required
Experience
  • Five-years driving experience with excellent driving record required
Certification, Registration or License
  • Valid Kansas class C driver’s license required
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) for vehicles of 16 passenger capacity with passenger or more with passenger endorsement, or obtain such license within a reasonable time after hired
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to treat persons served courteously
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Ability to read routing assignments, maps, and road signs
  • Ability to use hand radio
  • Ability to read GPS
  • Ability to move individuals in wheelchairs on and off the vehicles using lifts, to include pushing and pulling
  • Training in first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation preferred
Exposures
  • Blended exposure to outside elements and weather exposures inherent to continuous driving in residential and commercial areas with noise/vibrations from motorized vehicle
Physical Demands
  • Work Type: Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
  • Climbing/Balancing/Freedom to Move: Frequently mobile to move in and out of vehicle and assist passengers. Range of motion to moderate stooping, bending, lifting
  • Stooping/Bending: Moderate
  • Reaching: Moderate, overhead as well as horizontal and down
  • Vision: Adequate to perform essential functions
  • Color vision: As required for issuance of driver’s license
  • Hearing: Frequently perceive nature of sounds by ear
  • Speech: Frequently express ideas by means of spoken words
  • Eye/Hand/Foot Coordination: Frequently operates equipment requiring skilled ability
  • Manual Dexterity: Frequently operates equipment requiring skilled ability
