**Your Role as a Construction AmeriCorps Member with the Mobile Response team:**

In this role, you'll serve full-time alongside diverse and supportive construction leaders and volunteers. As an AmeriCorps member, you'll develop valuable leadership and construction skills in a welcoming environment. Your journey will include:

When not responding to immediate disasters the team is:

• Learning the nuts and bolts of building a home from the ground up – from framing to laying foundations, and installing windows and doors.
• As well as gaining comprehensive knowledge in home repair such as installing siding, repairing roofs, laying flooring, and painting.
• Lead volunteers and Habitat partner families at construction sites to ensure they have a safe, productive volunteer experience and effective teamwork

When responding to immediate disasters the team is:

• Responding to local and national disasters with activities such as home repairs, debris removal, mucking and gutting, roof tarping.
• Traveling in the state of Iowa or nationally with disaster teams when national disasters are declared.

• Serve 40 hours per week, earning a living stipend of $18,975 per year
• $7,395 education award upon successful completion of service.

**Desired Skills **

• Willingness and enjoyment of traveling with national and state disaster teams, if part of the Mobile Response Team
• Be able to serve in adverse weather conditions alongside volunteers (i.e. extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, and snow)
• Valid driver's license and clean driving report to be able to drive Habitat Vehicles get to service sites without Habitat assistance
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and climb ladders and scaffolding when in construction positions.

**AmeriCorps Eligibility Criteria: **

• At minimum members must be high school graduates, GED receipts, working on attaining a high school diploma or GED during their term of service, or the program must be an approved Youth Corps program. Or prove they are unable to officially do so.
• Be 18 years or older at the start of service (no upper age limit)
• Pass a national service criminal history check prior to first day of service
• Hold one of the following citizenship statuses: US citizen, US national, or Lawful Permanent Resident
