Job Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual that will enjoy working with our citizens to facilitate adoptions and help the department achieve our mission goals.

This position responds to inquiries in person or by phone in assigned area and:

  • Greet, assist, and provide high quality customer service to all visitors.

  • Process animal intakes, transfers, adoptions, and other dispositions.

  • Review adoption applications and approve for qualified citizens.

  • Redeem animals to owners according to Chesapeake Animal Services SOPs.

  • Educates citizens on local, state, and federal ordinances and responsible pet ownership.

  • Calculate and collect from citizens applicable fees and/or donations. Provide each citizen with appropriate materials related to transactions. Reconcile and report on monies received through daily/monthly reports.

  • Enters, updates, and/or edits data into computer system including, but not limited to animal medical records, city companion animal, pet store and exotic licenses, and daily/monthly reports.

  • Receive lost and found reports from citizens.

  • Trace forms of identification and alert citizens when appropriate.

  • Inventory and prepare purchases requests for supplies used by Customer Service Clerks.

  • Professionally answer and respond to calls and emails from citizens.

  • Protect the privacy of citizens while also forwarding concerns to supervisor when appropriate.

  • May solicit customer satisfaction feedback, including survey distribution within communities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Qualifications
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Requires high school diploma or GED and any combination of education and experience equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of three months of related, full-time equivalent experience.

SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
May require certifications depending on the department. Depending on departmental operational requirements, may require valid driver’s license and driving record in compliance with City Driving Standards.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred: experience with Microsoft, Outlook and Sharepoint
Perferred: strong customer service skills
