Area Manager

Position type and expected hours of work: Hours of work will depend on the job event and manager. Evening, nights, and weekend work will be required as job duties demand.

Summary: The Area Manager is responsible for directing, coordinating, and overseeing the collection activities of Interstate Class A Interstate CDL Drivers in a geographically dispersed area. Responsibilities include.

providing strategic leadership and direction, route coverage for drivers within assigned areas which may result in being in the field 25% - 75% of the time to assist in new customer route coverage, rollouts, and equipment drops.

This position requires a deep focus on communication, safety, outstanding service to our customers, and driving efficiency to increase productivity and support a culture of driving employee and customer engagement.

Essential functions:

  • Manage the day-to-day operations and provide daily support to a diverse team of 5-15 Class A CDL drivers, Lead Support, and utility workers across a geographically dispersed area to ensure quality, safety, efficiency, performance, and profitability.
  • Oversee personnel needs of the department including selecting prioritized coaching, training, and evaluating employee performance. Provide input into hiring, termination, and promotion decisions.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of training programs to ensure consistent performance while building relationships with a Team to encourage retention.
  • Assist in scheduling and routing new customer rollouts, equipment drops or ride-a-longs with the training team with new and current drivers to evaluate and train.
  • Act as the liaison between operations, drivers, Dispatch, and any other support team.
  • Assist Dispatch in determining the methods and areas of route coverage needed by scheduling, directing, and solving activities related to dispatching and the tracking of all drivers.
  • Review daily/weekly routes, determine potential gains from re-routing, and recommend re-routes.
  • Review and manage Open Cases
  • Assist Dispatch in investigating all Service Failures, of Geofence, and provide an action plan to prevent future occurrences.
  • Conduct scheduled performance reviews and submit recommendations for salary adjustments.
  • Enforce company policies and issuance of coaching/disciplinary documentation.
  • Act as or designate a driver advocate toward internal departments to answer driver questions, driver concerns, and resolve issues.
  • Ensure routing technology is used and routes are executed as designed.
  • Ensure safety procedures are adhered to Company Operating Standards. This includes reviewing driver DOT logs for HOS compliance.
  • When necessary, maintain the use of our Transportation Management Software (TMW) to keep track of daily loads and ensure that drivers are adhering to processes and procedures while running routes.
  • Maintain, monitor, and act on expense control initiatives to actively manage driver spend.
  • Maintain asset inventory lists and files Operate and maintain field equipment (Spreaders, farm tractors, pumps, wheel loaders, etc..) while maintaining full environmental compliance.
  • Assist Regional Ops. Mgr., with scheduling repairs and preventative maintenance for on-road and off-road equipment.
  • Obey and flag buffered zones on permitted fields before application.
  • Pull soil samples and have soil analysis completed before moving onto a new field.
  • Manage Client Sampling program and perform sampling and lab submission.
  • Record and subtract loads applied in the field log after every application.
  • Use best management practices when applying to ensure that application is done correctly, and the landowner's property is being treated with respect.
  • Monitor land usage & manage farm storage sites ensuring efficient operations.
  • Monitor frac tank levels and farm storage site levels and report daily.
  • Maintain accurate and correct paperwork and submit it in a timely fashion.
  • Provide onsite management and support for field operations. (Run pumps, operate spreaders, farm tractors, load tanker trucks, and dump trucks, perform clean outs, operate wheel loaders, etc.)
  • Inspect and maintain all equipment being used in the field. Be aware of all equipment malfunctions and parts repair or replacement.
  • Ensure safe equipment operation.
  • Maintain a safe work environment.
  • Become a team player, be accountable, and have a positive and professional attitude.
  • Acquire and maintain adequate land base for the customer base.
  • Prepare permit applications and ensure compliance with all regulatory and permit conditions, including soil and biosolids sampling, map preparation, and participating in site inspections with City and regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinate field scheduling with the Operational Manager and farmers. Ensure availability for back up operations.
  • Track product shipments and land application quantities. Responsible for the timely submittal and uploading of data into the tracking database.
  • Act as farmer liaison with Operations staff and regulatory liaison with state and local agencies.
  • Establish long-term, value-add relationships with local farmers.
  • Contact farmers on a consistent basis to address concerns and obtain feedback on performance.
  • Complete regulatory permit forms, maintain company compliance, etc.
  • Provide technical information and presentations to farmers, regulatory agencies, municipal clients, and the public as needed.
  • Assist with Operations, Sales, and Project Development teams when necessary.

Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, or overwhelming odors.

Physical demands: To successfully perform the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, climb, and hear. The employee is constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and walk. The employee must occasionally lift. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel: Travel may be frequent depending on the job assigned.

Preferred education and experience: High School Diploma or GED. Must have a valid driver's license. 2-3 years of experience, preferred. Class A CDL is a plus. Farm experience is preferred. Must be able to read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
