Job Description

Summary:

The Assistant Agronomist will report directly to the Regional Agronomy Manager. As an Assistant Agronomist, you will learn about potato production, not by reading about it, but by participating in the actual processes involved in potato production at various commercial production areas throughout North America. The Assistant Agronomist will participate in all phases necessary to produce high-quality potatoes for the Global Food division. This includes variety selection, trialing various agronomic principles, sampling programs, planting, growing, harvesting, storage management, and data collection and management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • VARIETY DEVELOPMENT
  • Help Maintain Variety Database and recommendations to growers
  • Coordinate spring seed movement to respective regions
  • Support and Assist Small Plot Variety Trials in Inkster, ND- Including seed preparation, planting, fertilizing, watering, scouting and harvesting
  • Coordinate with Variety Manager to execute small plot trials successfully
  • Facilitate and coordinate with local Field Departments on commercial trials
  • Assess Processing Plant data (recovery, grade quality, etc.)
  • Assist with special research assignments as needed·
  • RAW DEVELOPMENT
  • Assist Agronomy Managers or Field Dept team members on projects.
  • Support sampling and data collection programs (ND & MN).
  • Statistically analyze and summarize agronomic data and produce reports for projects and data collected. Present findings to management at times.
  • Be a knowledgeable resource on Agronomic practices for growers and Field Dept.
  • · SUSTAINABILITY
  • Support Ag Sustainability Manager and Local Field Dept.
  • · ADMINISTRATIVE
  • Support Regional Agronomy Manager and Regional Raw Procurement Manager on special projects and data tracking.
  • Track and compile raw divisional reports.

Typical Education: Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soils, Plant Pathology, Ag Business/Economics or related field). An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for meeting the minimum requirements.
  • Experience in crop production preferably in potatoes but not mandatory
  • Experience in analyzing, summarizing, and reporting agronomic trial results.
  • Willingness to travel throughout the US and occasionally to Canada.
  • Ability to work outdoors in the elements in all weather and ground conditions.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, up to 60 lbs, at times on uneven ground.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
