Winnebago Mental Health Institute (WMHI) has an opening for an Assistant Social Services Director. This position will typically work from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday with occasional on-call responsibilities as needed. WMHI is a part of the Division of Care and Treatment Services (DCTS) and is a psychiatric hospital providing quality mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

Position Summary


As the Assistant Social Services Director, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Collaborating with the Social Service Director to ensure social service staff are performing social service assessment, treatment, and discharge activities in accordance with the standards set forth by The Joint Commission, CMS, DHS, and WMHI policies and procedures.
  • Monitoring the professional practice of social workers through the development and implementation of a continuous quality improvement monitoring plan and provision of clinical supervision to staff in the completion of their duties.
  • Participating with the clinical leadership of WMHI to assure quality care and treatment is provided throughout WMHI.
  • Participating in professional organizations and interagency meetings, as appropriate, to enhance relationships between WMHI and community mental health providers.

Salary Information


The starting pay is between $40.40 and $42.10 per hour (approximately between $84,100 and $87,500 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Social Services Supervisor and is in pay schedule and range 81/03.

Job Details


All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the facility or medical personnel directed by the facility prior to their start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications


Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Certification or eligible for certification as a Certified Social Worker (CSW) or Certified Advance Practice Social Worker (CAPSW) in the State of Wisconsin. Eligible is defined as: you currently hold certification in another state and are eligible to obtain licensure in Wisconsin. Must obtain licensure by start date.
  • Experience working with adults or children with mental illness, as well as individuals with developmental disabilities or substance use disorders or a related population.
  • Experience working with Wisconsin State Statue Chapter 51 and the process involved in civil commitment.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Certification or eligible for certification as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Wisconsin. Eligible is defined as: you currently hold certification in another state and are eligible to obtain licensure in Wisconsin. Must obtain licensure by start date.
  • Experience providing administrative or clinical supervision to social workers.
  • Experience collaborating with multiple agencies/systems to identify resources that will support clients as they return to the community.
