Position Description

This position announcement will be used to fill a Full-Time, Permanent, Non-Represented, Assistant Parks Facility Superintendent vacancy within the Department of Recreation and Parks.


This is responsible supervisory work assisting in the operation, maintenance, and improvement of a park or facility.

NATURE AND VARIETY OF WORK

An employee in this classification is responsible for assisting in the planning and supervision of the work of employees in operations and maintaining a park and/or facility to include enforcement of laws, rules and regulations applicable to its use. Work is performed under the general direction and is reviewed by a Recreation and Parks Facility Superintendent and/or a Division Chief through inspections, evaluations conferences, and reports.

An employee in this classification is designated as an essential employee who is required to work under all weather conditions with frequent exposure to outdoor temperatures.

Examples of Duties and Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

(Note: The duties and responsibilities enumerated in this class specification are for the purpose of determining a common set of minimum qualifications and salary level for all positions in this class. Instructs employees on daily priorities and proper work procedures, reviews and evaluates work for methods and results; inspects facilities and grounds for hazards or unsafe conditions; maintains security of park/facility and directs protection measures for park/facility against fire, vandalism, and other risks.

Assists in the process of fees collected and keeps record of daily income and expenditure; prepares deposits; prepares financial and administrative reports; requisitions and purchases of materials and supplies; develops and monitors park budget; maintain cost controls.

Assists in the overall operation of park/facility on daily basis; enforcement of park/facility rules and regulations, oversee preparation of informative literature for distribution to public.

Assists in the preparation of employee work schedules, hiring, instructing, and evaluation of employees.

May represent the County and Department at public meetings related to park/facility operation and maintenance; planning and oversight of park/facility landscaping, reforestation, erosion control; plans and evaluates volunteer programs.

Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of park/facility operations, maintenance, and management.

Knowledge of hazard and safety practices involved in park/facility operation and maintenance.

Knowledge of the materials, equipment, methods, practices essential to the maintenance, repair of park/facility.

Knowledge of the basics of budget preparation and financial recording, reporting, and reconciliation.

Ability to interact effectively and courteously with the public, appointed and elected officials, subordinates, volunteers, and other divisions of the Department.

Ability to prepare work schedules and supervise and evaluate the work of others.

Ability to develop and apply policies applicable to the park/facility.

Ability to develop and conduct park/facility programs relating to the mission of the Department.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in park/facility management or a related field


EXPERIENCE:
Two (2) or more years of experience in park/facility operation and maintenance, including six (6) or more months supervisory experience


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A valid non-commercial motor vehicle operator’s license.
