Bioinformatics Analyst, Cancer Center

The MGH Center for Cancer Research located at the Charlestown Navy Yard, is seeking to fill a temporary Research Intern position. The individual will work under the mentorship of Dr. Doga Gulhan, learning to implement computational pipelines on Google Cloud and collaborating with clinical teams at the Termeer to improve data curation strategies. The candidate will be provided in-depth practical training alongside theory and should possess excellent communication skills since he/she/they will be expected to work closely with and learn from others in the lab and members of the Department. The candidate will collaborate with Dr. Leif Ellisen, Breast Oncology Program Director, and the computational groups of Drs. Esther Rheinbay and Michael Lawrence. The candidate will perform rigorous analysis of next-generation sequencing data (DNA, RNA, chromatin, single-cells) from tumor and normal samples to study intratumor heterogeneity.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: In order of importance, list essential areas of responsibility, major job duties, special projects, and key objectives for this position. Principal duties are to assist in building cancer genomics pipelines on the cloud and assist in data curation under the supervision of the project head and the PI of the laboratory. The pipelines they will build will be used to process raw transcriptomic and genomic data from the Investigational Cancer Therapeutics team at Termeer Targeted Therapy Center at MGH. The responsibilities for the project for the collaboration Leif Ellisen include applying existing and novel algorithms to breast cancer data sets, critically review and analyze results - Design and develop analysis approaches and workflows and novel software tools for large data sets from different sources - Present results effectively to clinicians, experimental and computational scientists
