Overview:

The Center for Drug Discovery (CDD) is a multi-disciplinary center comprised of chemists and pharmacologists who work together to discover new therapeutics in a non-profit setting. CDD is seeking a Biologist/Pharmacologist to conduct in vitro experiments to support drug discovery efforts. The successful candidate will use their expertise to produce high quality scientific data to support multiple funded research projects and contracts.


This position is located at our headquarters in Research Triangle Park, NC.

Responsibilities:
  • Run in vitro cell based experiments to determine quantitative pharmacological profile of compounds.
  • Culture mammalian cell lines for use in the laboratory and transfect cells with DNA plasmids.
  • Perform radioligand binding experiments in cell and tissue membranes.
  • Perform molecular biology techniques including DNA plasmid preparation, RNA isolation, ELISA, qRT-PCR, and western blot.
  • Develop assays and methods as needed to support projects.
  • On occasion, work with mice or rats to collect samples.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, or a related field with at least 1 year of research experience. Meaningful undergraduate or graduate level academic research experience is acceptable. More experienced candidates will be considered.
  • Coursework in molecular biology, chemistry, biochemistry, organic chemistry, cell biology and genetics strongly preferred.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0.
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience in cell-based experiments in a plate format such as 96- or 384-well assays a plus.
  • Experience with automated liquid handling equipment a plus.
  • Experience with high-throughput screening (HTS) a plus.
  • Experience working with rodents a plus.
  • Independent, self-motivated, and flexible in adapting skills according to evolving project priorities.
  • Possess strong and effective presentation, communication, organizational, and planning skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize work to meet project deadlines.

Hiring Salary Range: $50,000-$66,000
