Job Description

Harris-Stowe State University is a historically Black institution (HBCU) located in the heart of vibrant mid-town St. Louis, Missouri. Harris-Stowe’s beautiful campus is minutes from the renown Gateway Arch, St. Louis Zoo, St. Louis Art and History Museums, Forest Park and other cultural and educational institutions. Job Summary:

General Statement of Duties: Purchases supplies and equipment necessary for operation of college or university department via formal advertising, written proposals, etc., and enters into contracts within budgetary limits.


Essential Functions:

  • Reviews requisitions and interviews vendors to obtain information on products, prices, or ability of vendor to produce product.
  • Reviews contract bids received and participates in developing bid specifications for large projects.
  • Keeps records pertaining to items purchased, costs, delivery, product performance, and inventories.
  • Authorizes payment of invoices within specified amount via signature.
  • Maintains liaison with business community to ensure adequate source of needed supplies.


Minimum Education and Experience
:

  • Three (3) years professional work experience in buying, purchasing-related work, or a closely related field.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
:

  • Good knowledge of college or university practices and procedures.
  • Good knowledge of practices and procedures in contract administration and specification development and writing.
  • Good knowledge of principles and practices of bookkeeping and budgeting in a college and university environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, students, and the public.

:

  • No


Physical Requirements
:

  • Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
  • Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a signification degree


Working Conditions and Environment
:

  • Work is routinely performed in a typical interior/office environment
  • Very limited or no exposure to physical risk
