Cable Worker Supervisor II - EXAM - Columbus, OH

Definition

Under direction, is responsible for supervising crews involved in the installation, repair, and replacement of components of the underground power distribution system; performs related tasks as required.

Examples of Work

Supervises employees to include completing performance evaluations, approving/disapproving leave requests, and initiating disciplinary recommendations;
Prioritizes job schedules according to manpower and budget availability;
Ensures that deadlines are met for establishing customer services;
Assists in planning underground cable projects, recommending improvements to existing plans as required;
Prepares work and training schedules;
Makes recommendations for budget proposals to the distribution manager;
Attends meetings with management; may attend meetings with City officials and vendors.

Minimum Qualifications

Two (2) years' experience as a Cable Worker Supervisor I with the City of Columbus or comparable experience.

Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.

The names of the applicants passing this administration of this exam will be used to create a NEW, OPEN COMPETITIVE, eligible list for this classification. The examination process will consist of a multiple-choice exam weighted 80% covering Supervision, Reading Comprehension, Problem Sensitivity, and Logic and Reasoning, and a computer skills exam weighted 20% covering Word, Outlook and Excel (2010).

The exam is expected to be administered in late August, September. Approved applicants will be notified by mail/email of their scheduled test date and time.

All applicants must complete all phases of the testing process in order to receive a final score. The names of all candidates who pass this examination will remain on the eligible list for two years, unless the eligible list is replaced prior to or extended beyond the two years. If a candidate's name is certified and the candidate is to be considered for employment, the hiring process will include one or more interviews, a criminal background check, and a pre-employment drug test.
