JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB DESCRIPTION:
As a primary contact for Safeway customers, the Office Clerk provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. The Office Clerk is responsible for the office area of the grocery store. Pulls cash drawers from check stands and counts money. Gets cash from checkers as needed and provides checkers with smaller bills for change. Fills coin changers. May assist in customer service area during break relief or busy times. Maintains cleanliness of office area. May sell lotto tickets, money orders, fill scratch lotto
machine, or provide photo copying. Prepares and sells Western Union fund transfers. Totals and verifies checks. Verify electric funds (credit cards, debit cards, etc. by comparing computerized reports). Pulls reports from computer to verify funds and provide security report. Inputs information into the computer and reconciles daily and weekly store activity for cash accountability. Monitors and investigates
discrepancies or errors.

JOB DUTIES:

Safeway Office Clerk employees are generally responsible for completing the following job duties:
1. Provide customer service as currently defined by the employer within the scope of the position and within company policy.
2. Speak with customers to resolve problems with sales, dissatisfaction with service or product or other problems.
3. Counts paper currency, change, credit card receipts and checks and totals against print outs for accuracy. Prepares deposit slips.
4. Count and verify funds in safe and prepare for pick up by armored carrier.
5. Collect cash from checkers and provide checkers with smaller bills for change. Check contents of coin changer machines and fill if needed.
6. Answer telephone and page employees over intercom.
7. Operate computer to input numerical data. Prepare various statistical reports using computer.
8. Assist in customer service area during break relief or busy times.
9. Maintain cleanliness of office and storage area.
10. Other duties as assigned.

JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Ability to follow company customer service procedures. Demonstrated prior customer service skills or related experience.
2. Ability to interact with customers and co-workers.
3. Ability to understand and follow instructions.
4. Ability to multi task, be accurate and pay attention to detail.
5. Ability to use basic math skills, reading and writing.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Limited. May supervise front area of store in absence of management.
PERMITS/LICENSES:
Varies depending on store location and state/county requirements.

Computer, safe, coin changer, cash drawers, bill counter, brooms, rags, spray bottles, lotto machine, photo copier, telephone, intercom, money order machine, credit card scanner, pens and pencils, papers and forms, western union computer, fax machine, cash register

Chemicals: Seldom (mild detergents or glass cleaner).

Constant standing while on job. May sit while inputting data and counting money.

Frequent walking while on job.
Climb/Balance:
Seldom.
Trunk Functions:
Frequent neck rotation while counting. Frequent bending of head while counting and using a computer.
Occasional bending/stooping. Seldom twisting, crouching, squatting, and kneeling.
Upper Extremity:
Constant handling/grasping. Frequent fine finger manipulation. Frequent repetitive motion. Seldom forceful gripping.
Vision:
Use of peripheral vision and depth perception to move around crowded front area of store and office area.
Near vision used to read documents, computer displays, and count money.
Hearing:
To understand customer's questions, receive instructions or information from other employees, answer pages and telephone calls.
Speech:
Converse with customers and other employees in person and over the telephone and intercom.
