Job Description

Position Summary:

 

Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in receiving payment from customers or employees for goods.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Includes the following; other duties may be assigned:

 

  • Prepares schedules for cashiers, approves sick and leave time and makes recommendations to the General Manager on employee performance, raises, and possible promotions.  Submits specific suggestions as to how employee performance could be improved, as well as a plan of action as to how to implement those suggestions.

 

  • Keeps track of cashiers’ absences, tardiness, leaves and assures that those shifts are adequately covered with substitute personnel.

 

  • Trains new and existing employees to improve skills and versatility of staff.

 

  • Determines and standardizes effective procedures within the company guidelines, expedites workflow and examines subordinates work for accuracy.

 

  • Issues verbal and written instructions to employees, resolves grievances and maintains harmony within the department

 

  • Oversees cashiers’ verification of bags and cash drops when cash room personnel are not available.

 

  • Apprises management of cashier errors and discrepancies, as well as providing specific ideas for correcting the problem.

 

  • Assigns cashiers to registers and acts as a cashier when business dictates it.

 

  • Answers cashier’s questions and assists with computer problems, voids and exchanges.

 

  • Handles customer complaints, assists with customer service, including greeting the customer, answering questions, providing suggestions, and presenting a friendly demeanor.

 

  • Serves as Manager on Duty when other managers are not available.

 

  • Works with purchasing to ensure correct pricing on cigarettes and grocery items.

 

  • Assigns cleaning and stocking responsibilities to cashiers.

 

  • Willing to perform any duties requested by a supervisor.

 

Work Conditions:

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts.  The noise level and temperature in the work environment are usually moderate.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

High School Diploma or General Education Degree, (GED), or one year of related experience and or training, or equivalent combination of education and training.

 

Physical:

 

  • Occasional lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs.

 

  • Ability to see small print, speak and hear

 

 

Cashier Supervisor Con’t.

 

  • Constant use of both hands arms (one/both) in reaching, handling/grasping/fingering/gripping

 

  • Constant standing/walking

 

Mental:

 

  • Must have attention to detail; ability to follow instructions

 

  • Ability to speak on a one-to-one basis using appropriate grammar to give information or explain policies to an employee or customer.

 

  • Skill in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing whole numbers and decimals.

 

  • Skill in making change involving all denominations of American currency.

 

  • Skill in performing under the stress of frequent interruptions and/or distractions

 

  • Skill in accurately copying, posting, or transcribing data.

 

  • Skill in reading and writing brief words and sentences in standard English to complete reports and evaluations, as well as to obtain and transmit information as necessary.

 

  • Skill in supervising employees, including organizing objectives, delegating responsibility, training and evaluating subordinate effectiveness.

 

  • Skill in using calculators.

 

  • Familiarity with point of sale computer system is highly desirable.
