JOB PURPOSE: Reviews medical record content and codes using ICD-10-CM.
Performs various clerical duties as assigned.
This position is facility based and cannot be performed remotely.
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS: Education: High school graduate.
Successful completion of coding educational program.
Successful completion of onsite coding test.
Experience: Previous medical records department and/or coding experience preferred.
Technical Skills: Some typing skills; minimal computer literacy.
Age and Disability: Possesses knowledge and skills necessary to interact compassionately and appropriately with families of the mentally ill.
Other: Able to maintain confidentiality.
Contacts: Reports to the Director of Medical Records.
Interacts with department staff, medical staff and ancillary departments.
Environmental Demands: Physical surroundings are pleasant and comfortable.
Essential Physical/Mental Demands: Ability to make frequent trips to units using stairs and outside walkway (walkway is exposed to weather conditions) and occasional trips to retrieve medical records from archive areas using stairs.
Manual Dexterity Required: Ability to type/keyboard, operate photocopy and fax equipment.
