Nebraska Methodist Health System is Hiring a Certified Surgical Coder!

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assigns ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for outpatient records to ensure accurate reimbursement.
  • Achieves and maintains an accuracy rate of at least 95%.
  • Enters diagnosis and procedure codes for timely claim submissions.
  • Reviews and updates CPT and HCPCS codes to ensure correct charges for services and devices.
  • Collaborates with physicians to verify billing accuracy, providing guidance on insurance billing updates.
  • Investigates claim denials, corrects coding/charging issues within 14 days, and maintains timely submission of claims.
  • Meets productivity standards: coding various encounters per hour, ensuring accounts are updated within 3 days of discharge.


Schedule:

  • Mon - Fri, full-time, flexible 8-hour daytime shifts


Location:

  • Methodist Corporate Office- 825 S 169th St, Omaha, NE


Salary:

  • Starting pay of $24.20 and may increase based on work history/experience


Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • College-level coursework in anatomy, physiology, biology, disease processes, and medical terminology required.
  • Associate's Degree in Health Information Management or a related healthcare degree preferred.


Experience:

  • 3+ years of coding physician services from documentation preferred.
  • Experience in surgical and Evaluation/Management (E/M) coding required.


Licenses/Certifications:

  • One of the following certifications is required: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Registered Health Information Tech (RHIT), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician-based (CCS-P).


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

  • Strong attention to detail in reviewing medical records, verifying diagnoses, and reviewing charges during ICD-10-CM and CPT code assignment.
  • Understanding of outpatient prospective payment methodology and knowledge of national correct coding initiatives.
