POSITION PURPOSE:

Assists in the preparation of all meals by applying basic principles of food production; responsible for all monies, accurate meal counts and food items. Delivers food, supplies, and equipment to Child Nutrition Operations.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps;

  • Working knowledge of child nutrition laws, policies, and procedures;

  • Effective time management skills;

  • Excellent customer service skills;

  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations required for completion of records and reports;

  • Ability to read, interpret, and administer detailed instructions, schedules, and recipes in large quantities;

  • Ability to meet deadlines;

  • Ability to work independently without close supervision;

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, and the community.


EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent.


CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of NC requirements.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in food service and/or serving as a cashier.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs work to prepare, cook and serve meals, salads and a la carte items; prepares entrees, vegetables and other side dishes according to standardized recipes and keeps accurate documentation of food preparation.

  • Operates and maintains WCPSS vehicles in a safe, responsible and efficient manner while transporting CNS goods, as required.

  • Serves as a cashier in the school cafeteria to collect money; responsible for accurate records of all food leaving the serving line by accurately using a computerized point of sale system to record sales.

  • Follows accurate procedures for the exchange and collection of monies, assists in the preparation of deposits.

  • Participates in on the job training to understand requirement of the federally reimbursable meals, identification of meals on the serving line, and food preparation.

  • Ensures the kitchen area equipment and utensils are kept clean according to sanitation codes; follows a schedule for maintaining cleanliness.

  • Performs various housekeeping duties that may include sweeping and mopping floors, wiping or washing tables and chairs, cleaning the bathroom, and cleaning the serving, receiving, and dining areas.

  • Complies with policies and procedures in the Wake County Public Schools Child Nutrition Handbook.

  • Provides effective communication and customer service to students, parents, and school system staff, as appropriate.

  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.


WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position operates in a professional office and school cafeteria environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, and cafeteria/food preparation equipment. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff, staff members of external funding agencies, vendors, students, parents, and the community. Work is considered heavy physical work, requiring the exertion of up to 40 pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving automotive equipment for travel within Wake County.
