Statement of Job:

The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) is seeking a College Success Skills Coordinator for Title III to join a team dedicated to improving the first-year student experience at a small public university. This role includes participation in the development of the first-year curriculum, with a special focus on the First-Year Seminar as an opportunity to ensure that all incoming students are able to effectively navigate the transition to college.

 

This is a soft-money, grant-funded position, 1 year renewable up to September 2028.

 

This is a full-time, 11-month position.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the First-Year College Success Skills program.

  • Works with First-Year Seminar faculty and other UMF staff on the delivery of the Success Skills curriculum.

  • Schedules speakers and organizes other activities that help promote the development of college success skills.

  • Leads and supports the work of Peer Mentors, Success Skills Instructors, and other UMF personnel involved in the delivery of the College Success Skills program.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree must be obtained prior to the start of the appointment.

  • One (1) year of experience working with college students in an educational setting (as a teacher or advisor).
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Higher Education, Pre-Professional Studies, or a related field.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds, especially first-generation and low-income students.

  • Certification in advising, counseling, or career development (e.g., NACADA, GCDF).

  • Experience in program development and event planning.
