Job Description

As an Engineer Technician I, you will assist in providing technical and field support services including construction observation, planning, organizing and managing project tasks for KLJ clients.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct technical and field support work independently or with direction from senior team members
  • Able to understand basic principles of field construction and engineering processes, procedures and methods
  • Apply field observation and documentation practices necessary to individual project tasks
  • Able to read and understand construction drawings and specifications
  • Able to understand basic construction surveying practices
  • Conduct technical and field support work independently or with direction from senior team members
  • Provide quality control by reviewing work completed by other technicians
  • Ensure compliance with KLJ safety and quality standards
  • Utilize software(s) associated with typical project requirements
  • Communicate consistently with the project manager and client
  • Utilize effective written and oral communication

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, organizing and managing project tasks
  • Become familiar with the plans and specifications, maps, and related material for each project and be able to utilize the information appropriately
  • Assist with correspondence, legal descriptions and easements, permits, bid and estimate forms, agreements, and project files and closeouts
  • Ensure proactive understanding of priorities on an ongoing basis.
  • Raise field construction issues for guidance from supervision
  • May support construction administration functions

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to operate motorized vehicles

Preferences:

  • An Associate’s degree in accredited engineering or construction management program
  • Construction field experience

Relationships

The Engineering Technician I is supervised by the Team Lead and receives close supervision and direction on project related tasks from the engineer or project manager

Hours and Travel

This position requires the individual work 40+ hours per week with 20% of time spent in the office and 80% in the field.

  • Sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms
  • Talk or hear and communicate clearly

The employee must:

  • Be able to walk on uneven terrain up to three miles per day
  • Frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 75 pounds

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The salary for this position is expected to range between $45,000 and $55,000. This estimated salary represents the middle of the range. Factors that may be used to determine actual salary include education (or applicable experience), training, job location, competencies relevant to the role, and internal equity.
