I. Position Summary:
The Trauma Coordinator is a Registered Nurse with clinical experience in care of the injured patient, who is responsible for the coordination & management of the trauma program functions. The Trauma Coordinator works to promote optimal care for the trauma patient through clinical programs, performance improvement (PI) and patient safety initiatives, administrative functions, data-driven injury prevention activities, and must be actively involved in the state trauma system. This position oversees all aspects of the trauma registry, including abstracting, coding, uploading of data to the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment and HCA headquarters. Coordinates on-going re-assessment and appropriate revision of Performance Improvement/Quality assurance filters in collaboration with Trauma Medical Director and other key trauma program stakeholders. Produces monthly, quarterly and annual tracking and trending reports as required by the facility, Division and HCA Headquarters. Monitors/reviews patient care records, PI filter results, clinical outcomes, and system and operational issues related to quality of care delivery, specifically focusing on hospital course. Identifies trends, sentinel events, major complications and deaths concurrently. This position will investigates root/cause, performs individual case reviews, maps timelines, etc. to fully evaluate system, operational and peer issue(s). This position develops action plans and ensures follow-up and loop closure with documentation that meets or exceeds Colorado Public Health & Environment trauma requirements. The position will participate and lead multidisciplinary meetings and rounds to monitor care of in-hospital patients, serves as clinical practice resource, tracks patient continuity of care and identify any potential issues on a concurrent basis. The individual in this role will participate in research projects, presentations, and publication of activities that highlight trauma program performance improvement and injury prevention activities. This role ensures triennial trauma program designation by the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment. Performs other trauma duties as required or assigned by supervisor.
