Description
Kentucky Correctional Industries (KCI) was established in 1954 and have since provided goods and services for the private industry as well as the citizens of Kentucky. Currently, Correctional Industries is comprised of 15 separate types of industry, maintained in 8 correctional facilities across the state. Correctional Industries employ more than 700 inmates teaching job skills to reduce recidivism and make these individuals more productive members of society.

The Correctional Industries Production Coordinator plays a vital role in the mission of KCI by overseeing the manufacturing and production operation. Responsibilities may include:
  • Training and coordinating the work of inmates
  • Providing and maintaining a safe work area
  • Coordinating specific manufacturing operations
  • Preparing purchase documents
  • Working alongside vendors, managers, and central office
  • Calculating inmate payroll
  • Managing and running reports
  • Tracking and updating inventory

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.


EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Must have two years of specific trade(s) experience in welding, metalworking, woodworking, sewing machine operating, sign making, graphic arts, offset, photolithographic or screen process printing, wood furniture making, paneling, clothing manufacturing, furniture upholstering, furniture refinishing, mattress manufacturing, soap manufacturing, metal fabricating, embroidery, two-way radio repair, or data entry work. One year of the required experience must include the supervision of employees in any field.


Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: Additional education in one of the above fields will substitute for one year of the specific trades experience on a year-for-year basis.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): NONE
Working Conditions
Work is typically performed in a shop setting within a correction facility. Work environment is hazardous due to working in a state correctional facility with inmates.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
