The Office of the Secretary, Internal Affairs Office (IAO) is currently recruiting to fill two Corrections Investigator vacancies located at our central office at 3099 E. Washington Ave., Madison, WI.
NOTE: These positions are allowed to work remotely for a portion of the work schedule, up to 95% depending on the employee's preference and the work unit's needs. Approval of telecommuting and work schedule will vary based on the operational needs of the office.

NOTE: Must be able to travel and work a flexible schedule, this may include weekends and holidays.

Position Summary

These positions conduct investigations into allegations of potential supervisory misconduct, staff misconduct, and other sensitive investigations/special assignments. Other sensitive investigations and special assignments may be assigned by the IAO Director or Supervisor. Other responsibilities include providing technical assistance and consultation to agency staff on investigations and conducting investigative case reviews and provide written reports on findings to agency leadership. This position will also collect data and identify trends and make recommendations for process improvement.
Salary Information

The starting pay is between $54,787 and $90,396 per year, plus excellent benefits. Pay on appointment may vary according to the applicable pay transaction provisions of the compensation plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code. The pay schedule/range is 81-03. A 12-month probationary period is required.
Job Details

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment. Applicants who fail or refuse the drug screen will not be given further consideration for employment.
Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:
  • Conducting investigations and utilizing investigative techniques.
  • Reviewing and analyzing investigative findings and preparing a summary report.
  • Interviewing witness, subjects, or victims in sensitive topics such as sexual abuse, harassment, or domestic violence.
In addition to the above, well qualified applicants will have:
  • Working with local, state, and/or federal law enforcement agencies (e.g. sharing investigative information, evidence, and witnesses, inter-agency liaison work, conducting inter-agency investigations).
  • Providing expert testimony in defense of investigations in court or other hearings.
  • Working with multiple intra-agency program areas on various sensitive or confidential matters.
