Description
The Department of Corrections (DOC) mission is to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth and to provide a safe, secure and humane environment for staff and offenders in carrying out the mandates of the legislative and judicial processes; and, to provide opportunities for offenders to acquire skills which facilitate non- criminal behavior.

The DOC provides an opportunity for inmates to acquire skills through educational programming. The education programs include:
  • Communication skills
  • General education
  • Basic academic skills
  • GED preparation
  • Special education
  • Vocational education
  • Postsecondary education
The Corrections Regional Education Administrator plays a vital role in this mission through managing and supervising all personnel, programs, operations and curriculum planning at the Luther Luckett Correctional Complex.

Responsibilities may include:
  • Conducts on site evaluation and review of all Corrections Education Specialist I and II.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff performance.
  • Coordinate professional development opportunities.
  • Conducts staff meetings.
  • Ensure all education programs are operated in accordance with department policies and procedures and American Correctional Association Standards.
  • Verifies documents and transcripts for inmate’s educational good time and awards.
  • Plans and develops new programs.
  • Monitors budgetary allocations and expenditure needs.
  • Prepare for audits.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a master's degree in education, counseling, or related field.


EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Five years of professional experience in academic or vocational education.

Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
