Job Description

Join Our Team as a Customer Service Representative & Quality Assurance Lead at Chief River Nursery!

Chief River Nursery, a trusted name in tree and shrub seedlings since 1973, is seeking a dynamic individual for a dual role: Customer Service Representative from September to January, transitioning to Quality Assurance Lead from February to mid-June. We sell our high-quality products to 46 states across the country, and our customers are at the heart of everything we do.

About the Role: As a Customer Service Representative, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting customers with placing orders and answering various questions.
  • Following up with any customer inquiries to help complete sales.
  • Educating customers about our diverse range of tree and shrub seedlings, their characteristics, best planting practices, and shipping timelines.
  • Providing information on pricing and discounts to help customers make informed decisions.

During the February to mid-June period, you will transition to the Quality Assurance Lead role, co-supervising our tree packing fulfillment crew. Responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with the other QA lead to train new staff.
  • Reviewing packing processes and providing coaching to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Supervising packing crew during peak shipping weeks as we dispatch thousands of orders across the U.S.

Ideal Schedule: We can offer some flexibility for the right candidate, but the ideal schedule is as follows:

  • January: Office-based, 3 to 5 days per week
  • February – mid-June: On-site packing facility, 5 days per week (full-time)
  • Mid-June - August: Off
  • September - December: Office-based, 1 to 2 days per week

We hope to find an individual who can commit to this schedule each year on a permanent basis.

What We’re Looking For: While we’re happy to train the right candidate, the following skills and qualities would be beneficial:

  • Comfort with training others and delivering regular and timely constructive feedback.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Office).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort with learning new software applications.
  • Fast and accurate typing skills.
  • A positive, friendly attitude and a genuine desire to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Experience in quality assurance, training, or logistics is a plus!
  • A background or interest in horticulture, agriculture, or landscaping is advantageous.

Our Culture: At Chief River Nursery, we foster a light-hearted and friendly work environment. Our team members are dedicated, efficient, and always ready to meet customer needs with outstanding personal service. We appreciate our easy-going customer base, who share our passion for planting for a better future.

Compensation: We offer a competitive starting pay based on qualifications. Additionally, you’ll have access to a 401K plan with a generous company match starting in your second season of employment.
