Position Summary:
The Dietary Aide at Stony Brook Hospital is an ancillary employee who performs various patient services, including patient visitation, tray assembly, distribution and service, general sanitation, cleaning, and use of kitchen equipment and pantries.

1199 Union Position: Dietary Aides are employees of the Auxiliary Services Association. The 1199 Union provides health and retirement benefits after completion of the probationary period.

**Essential Position: This position is considered "Essential." The incumbent must report to work regardless of extreme weather or other conditions. **

FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Rate of Pay: $21.77 Hourly (Contractual increases afterward)
Schedule: Weekends and Holidays required. (Availability starting at 4pm)

Required Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Excellent customer service skills
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English, follow written and verbal instructions, and complete simple computational skills
• Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position
• Ability to meet acceptable background check standards
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in the healthcare environment

Program/Department Responsibilities:

• Deliver meals and nourishments to patients courteously and professionally following departmental procedures.
• Collect trays from patient rooms or units as per departmental policy.
• Operate and clean equipment per departmental procedures.
• Safely transport garbage and recyclable material to assigned areas.
• Accurately portion and serve food for patients quickly and accurately, with minimum waste, per departmental procedures.
• Safely transport food carts and equipment throughout the hospital as required.
• Accurately inventory and deliver par stock supplies to identified units and clean per departmental procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
