The Universidad Ana G. Méndez (UAGM) is excited to announce the establishment of its new dental medicine school in Puerto Rico. Description

Prepare and submit the strategic plan for the development of the Academic Department of Surgical Sciences. Prepare and submit an annual work plan and report on the achievements of the academic department with the corresponding budget and be responsible for its analysis and control. Promote the search for external funds for the benefit of the study programs. Supervise the responsible use, maintenance, and custody of the property of the academic department. Comply with the provisions of the Faculty Manual, and the faculty and administrators’ recruitment and evaluation system, including the certification of part-time faculty. Comply with the provisions of the Faculty Manual in terms of evaluation and rank promotion. Implement and direct activities that contribute to meeting the requirements of learning assessment and institutional effectiveness. Prepare and submit managerial reports related to the activities carried out in the unit. Comply with the fiscal control obligations as provided by the institutional effectiveness unit. Participate in meetings, institutional committees, and activities that directly impact the academic department. Promote and participate in the development of continuing education offerings and activities aligned with the needs of the population that is being served. Periodically convene and direct work meetings with faculty of the academic department. Evaluate the feasibility and recommend the development of new programs and academic offerings. Supervise the proper coordination of the student practices and internship component, where applicable. Prepare and submit course programming in accordance with established procedures and student needs. Keep the academic offering of the academic department up to date, in consultation and coordination with the Dean, the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, the faculty, and the academic development plans. Ensure with the appropriate units the availability of materials, equipment, supplies, information resources, among others, as required by the academic programming of the academic department. Coordinate, with the Dean, the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and the Directors of the Academic Programs, the licensing and accreditation processes of the programs and ensure compliance with the quality standards applicable. Implement the professional development plan for the faculty of the academic department, in consultation with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and in coordination with the Director of the Academic Program. Supervise faculty's compliance with established academic and administrative policies and procedures. Allocate the academic load of the faculty in accordance with the provisions set forth in the Faculty Manual. Participate in the selection of the faculty of the unit. Promote strategies, processes, and activities that contribute to student recruitment, retention, and graduation. Support the enrollment processes efforts to achieve the institutional goals. Collaborate with the strategic retention plan and offer recommendations for the fulfillment of the established goals. Promote and participate in the development of internationalization activities in the curriculum or student activities.

Qualifications and skills

  • DMD/DDS degree from a U.S. or Canadian dental school recognized by the ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation or a comparable degree.
  • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Certificate (OMFS) or equivalent degree.
  • American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery certification or other equivalent required.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in dental education.
  • Demonstrate mastery of business productivity technology tools as well as remote communication technologies to support their functions and offer physically (on site) and remote services.
  • Knowledge of the academic areas of a dental medicine school.
  • Knowledge of modern supervision and management theories and practices.
  • Knowledge of the organization and structure of an academic institution.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, administrative employees, students, and public.
  • Ability to make decisions of high responsibility.
  • Ability to prepare written reports in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to prepare well-structured work plans.
  • Ability to effectively express, orally and in writing, in Spanish and English.
