Job Description

The mission of Laurel House is to advocate for and empower those impacted by domestic violence by providing crisis intervention, safe haven, appropriate programs and resources and to advance social change through preventive education and through community training and collaboration to foster a coordinated response to domestic violence.

Laurel House is dedicated to the vision of ending domestic violence in each life, home, and community throughout Montgomery County. Our first program, established in 1980, was a domestic violence shelter for abused women and their children. In addition to emergency shelter, Laurel House offers a 24-hour hotline, transitional housing, individual and group counseling, legal representation as well as community education and prevention efforts.

We are seeking two (2) part-time counselors to provide weekly individual counseling services and support group services to survivors of domestic violence. One position will cover Monday thru Wednesday noon to 8:00 pm (24 hours). The second position will cover Thursday and Friday 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday noon to 4:00 pm (20 hours).These counseling positions are primarily located at the Safe Haven Center, but may occasionally work from other locations as needed.

  • Provide on-site and virtual individual counseling services to community consumers and Safe Haven Center residents;
  • Provide support group facilitation virtually and on - site at the Safe Haven Center;
  • Attend weekly clinical individual and biweekly group supervision with Director of Counseling;
  • Arrange appointments for and return calls to consumers in a timely manner;
  • Collaborate as needed with other service providers of consumers being served, with participants written permission;
  • Attend staff meetings, as requested;
  • Maintain accurate notes for recordkeeping purposes;
  • Maintain accurate records of licensure accrual hours, if not already licensed;
  • Function as a member of the team, actively contributing to discussion and decision-making.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in counseling psychology, social work, or related field;

Licensure preferred but not required. If not licensed, dedication to completing clinical hours for licensure.

Clinical experience with victims of trauma.

Computer competency in Microsoft Office applications.
