UW Facilities manages the University’s buildings, infrastructure and land, with more than 1,100 employees in a variety of fields. Maintenance & Construction (M&C) is responsible for general maintenance, repair, and renovations of all University of Washington (UW) main campus facilities including building interiors, exteriors, and grounds, as well as logistics, moving, and disposal of surplus equipment and furniture.

We have an outstanding opportunity for a Driver Warehouse Worker.

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Manager for Warehouse Operations, duties include but are not limited to: pick up and deliver materials, tools, and equipment to job sites, storerooms, or warehouses within required time-frames; drive a truck (up to one ton); interact daily with trades personnel, general public, staff, and students; provide excellent customer service through timely responses to requests; deliver clear and courteous communication while paying attention to details. Maintain parts, materials, tools, and equipment surplus records; conduct annual inventories; set up storerooms and warehouse areas.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform general warehouse duties, clerical work, and manual labor; which include heavy lifting and the operation of various types of material handling equipment

  • Perform warehouse functions in multiple locations which include counter service, inventory control, receiving/disbursing, material storage, along with picking, packing, staging, and the delivery of materials to multiple locations

  • Provide ongoing logistical support for UW Facilities (UWF) organization: Maintenance & Construction, Campus Energy, Utilities, and Operations, Building Services and others as required

  • Deliver tools, equipment, and materials

  • Issue materials and stage materials for pickup by trades personnel

  • Accurately process materials utilizing the AiM system

  • Attend safety and staff training classes as required

  • Maintain current Forklift Certification

  • Correctly operate Material Handling Equipment which includes but is not limited to, Forklifts, Hand Trucks, Pallet Jacks, and other loading and material moving equipment used in warehouse and delivery activities

  • Inspect incoming items and check for condition, quantity, and type against shipping documents

  • Utilize inventory control and replenishment systems

  • Process inventory items utilizing barcode equipment to update database

  • The Driver-Warehouse Worker understands University of Washington and UW Facilities policies, regulations, and procedures relating to the purchasing of goods and services as a part of UWF Stores and Warehouse Operations program support

  • Utilize hardware and software associated with UWF Stores inventory management

  • Participate in physical inventories on an ongoing basis

  • Operate light, medium duty vehicles, up to and including one and one half ton trucks

  • Pick-up and deliver materials, equipment, tools, and personnel to various locations

  • Position requires contact with trades personnel, general public, staff, and students

  • Provide excellent customer service through timely responses to requests and clear and courteous communication

  • Maintain a neat, orderly, safe work area which includes vehicle cleanliness

  • Participate in workplace safety and job training certification classes as required to perform daily duties

  • Perform data entry duties such as data retrieval and data modification

  • Enter numeric or alphabetical data as needed

  • Participate in developing and implementing workplace improvements associated with Lean activities

  • Collaborate and engage in activities and assignments associated with improving workplace policies and day-to-day operational practices

  • Provide support to all Materials Management programs and functions

  • Assist with special projects as assigned

  • Driver-Warehouse Workers may be assigned to various campus locations based on business needs

  • Assignments to work sites may vary in duration and frequency

  • Requirements include:

  • Physical ability to do required work

  • AND one year of experience operating light trucks, delivery vehicles, and related equipment

  • AND possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license

  • OR equivalent education/experience.

    Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    Desired:

    • Working knowledge of Maintenance & Construction products, supplies, and materials used by skilled trades
    • Ability to learn new proprietary software and ability track daily tasks using Microsoft Office suite of software tools
    • Ability to learn and use customized database software
    • Must have excellent customer service skills/experience
    • Computer literacy
    • Have knowledge and understand of safe work practices and policies
    • Ability to wear all proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required

    Conditions of Employment:

    • Ability to lift and move heavy materials is required, including the following on a regular basis lifting up to 50 lbs. to chest height, and handling heavier items with assistance and/or the aid of lifting equipment
    • Must also be able to bend and climb stairs on a regular basis
    • Possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License
    • This position requires driving on and off campus (greater Seattle area including the Eastside areas)
    • Ability to driver/operate material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallets jacks; able to obtain and maintain forklift certification
    • Approved safety shoes must be provided at the employee’s expense and worn on the job
    • Annual participation in request for Washington Department of Licensing Driving Record for Employers
    • Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment.
    • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
