Emergency department technicians provide specialized assistance to nurses and physicians. They administer tests with diagnostic exams and therapeutic procedures. ED technicians will be interacting with a substantial amount of acutely ill and unstable patients. Albany Medical Center is the only hospital accredited as a Level One trauma center in the Capitol District, as such, it provides the highest level of total care for every aspect of injury. They are uniquely trained to provide lifesaving interventions to traumatic injuries as well as medical emergencies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists with resuscitation / CPR and emergency airway procedures
- Performs venipuncture to obtain blood specimens
- Assists physicians and nurses providing technical support for patient care
- Reports on the condition of the patient to the appropriate supervisor/staff member
- Assists with the transport of patients to other departments
- Assists with obtaining and documentation of vital signs, cardiac monitoring, and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring systems
- Obtains 12-lead EKGs, discontinues peripheral IV and heparin/saline locks
- Assist with wound care, insertion of Foley catheters, and nasogastric tubes
- Assists with positioning patients, application of orthopedic splints and dressings
- Measure and fit crutches and canes and instruct patients on proper use
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 6 months to 1-year previous experience as a ED Technician and/or previous EMS experience is desired
- Honest, punctual, and performs the job in adherence to the highest standards of ethical conduct as defined by AMC and the tenets of the profession.
- Ability to communicate cooperatively and effectively with patients, family members, employees and others.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use of hands for various job functions, and occasionally required to sit, kneel, or crouch.
