Introduction


The Department of Health Services (DHS) Division of Public Health (DPH) is recruiting for an Education and Training Coordinator for the Wisconsin Cancer Reporting System (WCRS) within the Office of Health Informatics (OHI).

DPH works with our local and tribal public health partners, and community groups statewide, on a wide variety of programs and services that protect the health of Wisconsin residents.

This position offers the option to work remotely up to 5 days per week and can be headquartered at one of the DPH central or regional offices. You must have access to both a private workspace and high-speed internet if working remotely. A greater in-office presence may be required periodically for meetings, events, training, onboarding, or other operational needs. This position will work Monday through Friday, daytime hours.

Position Summary


As the WCRS Education and Training Coordinator, you will be responsible for conducting trainings related to all aspects of reporting cancer cases to Wisconsin’s central cancer registry to meet state and federal reporting requirements. You will be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining training documentation, online modules, and a role-based training curriculum for any new functionality, and existing functionality documentation that may be out of date. Additional duties include:
  • Evaluating cancer data quality and implementation of cancer data quality improvements (implementing cancer case data collection, performing cancer case abstracting, consolidating, case finding, and coding, and coordinating the data editing process.).
  • Functioning as the WCRS medical data expert for the cancer incidence data collected from hospitals, clinics, laboratories and physicians per WI State Statute 255.04 and for cancer mortality information from death certificate files.
  • Conducting both one-on-one and statewide trainings and conduct and record web-based trainings for reporting facilities on RegistryPlus information systems, cancer case finding and abstracting to ensure high quality data meets all state and federal guidelines.
  • Managing and updating WCRS training processes,
  • Researching and reviewing cancer literature to ensure the most relevant information is used in trainings and announcements,
  • Creating and managing all training materials, including WCRS reporter page website and web-based trainings.
  • Training WCRS staff on evolving abstracting software updates, coding and staging requirements.

Salary Information


The starting pay for this position is between $35.21 and $36.80 per hour (approximately between $73,200 and $76,500 per year) depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Pay for current or former employees is set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Research Analyst Senior and is in pay schedule and range 08/03.

Job Details


All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.

For positions that do allow remote working flexibility, although residency in the State of WI is not required for permanent positions, it is not anticipated that working outside of WI or bordering cities will be allowed as positions may at times need to report to office locations in WI on short notice.

Employees must have access to both a private workspace and secure high-speed internet for remote work option. Mileage reimbursement to the employee’s headquarter location is not provided. Remote work flexibility will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications


Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Current Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) credential or ability to complete the Cancer Registry Management program. Selected candidate must obtain this credential within one year of hire.
  • Experience reviewing completeness, accuracy and quality of a database or registry.
  • Experience providing technical assistance to internal and external partners including integrating equity and accessibility principles.
  • Experience developing and facilitating group presentations.

Well-qualified applicants will have one or more of the following:

  • Experience providing technical assistance and training to end-users in a hospital or healthcare setting with diverse user audiences.
  • Experience with program evaluation techniques in healthcare settings (e.g., quality improvement, compliance, etc.).
  • Experience with a cancer program including working as Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) or in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • Experience interpreting federal laws, reporting requirements and standards, or State Administrative Rules.
