We are recruiting for a motivated Emergency Services Technician-Night shift to join our team! Clinical Decision Unit Clinical Decision Unit is the newest addition to emergency services at Denver Health. It is a clinical pathway driven short stay unit, that specializes in caring for patients who have been initially evaluated in the emergency department. Average lengths of stay are between 8-16 hours, and care is provided by a multidisciplinary team that delivers ongoing medical treatments, assessments and dispositions of patients in this area. It is a team-based environment; that allows nurses to practice autonomy while caring for complex patients. It is perfect for nurses seeking a transition between the emergent and inpatient worlds. Nursing ratios are 1:5, with healthcare techs at a 1:8 ratio on days. Job Summary

Under direct supervision of the RN, APP and/or physician, provides patient care in accordance with treatment plans. Communicates changes in patient conditions within the scope of practice to RN. Collaborates with the RN and other members of the healthcare team. Participates in patient care activities.

Essential Functions:

• Obtains vital signs and differentiates normal from abnormal findings. Reports abnormal values or conditions to the RN. (EX. Abnormal VS, bleeding, safety concerns, family issues. (20%)
• After completion of the Denver Health Phlebotomy class and documented competency, provides phlebotomy for patients per standard orders and in collaboration with physicians and nursing. (15%)
• Assists the RN in carrying out the plan of care for assigned patients. Acts appropriately in critical situations. (15%)
• Assists with the care coordination and safe transportation of patients through the ED visit. Is able to transport low risk monitored patients through the hospital. (15%)
• Performs transportation responsibilities when requested; transporting patients from one area to another; delivering laboratory specimens, blood products, medications and other hospital/medical items to the requested departments as needed; and includes access to the pneumatic tube system to transport items, including blood products and medications, to and from the tube and the desired location. (15%)
• Under direct supervision of the RN and as delegated by the physician, implements care based on prioritized patient needs, assists with the plan of care with measurable outcome and goals for the patient/family, and participates in the discharge planning process. (20%)

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:

• No previous experience required.

Licenses:

• BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required and
• EMTB-EMT Basic - CO - State of Colorado Required or
• EMTP-EMT Paramedic - CO - State of Colorado Required or
• EMTBIV-EMT Basic IV - CO - State of Colorado Required and

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of Emergency Department practices.
• Knowledge of and the ability to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
• Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
• Skill in maintaining records and recording test results.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, employees, physicians and the public.
• Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Ability to maintain quality control standards.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skill set required.
• Documentation of completed tasks, vital signs, procedures and notes in EHR.
• Documentation of patient safety observation in accordance with DH’s policies and procedures.
