The Ohio EPA Division of Air Pollution Control is looking for an enthusiastic, innovative individual to join our team in beautiful downtown Columbus

Ah! There you are!

As an Ohio EPA environmental specialist, you will assist the manager of the Air Quality Evaluation & Planning section with the coordination and development of the State Implementation Plan (SIP) and implementation of the requirements and rules necessary to attain and maintain the national ambient air quality standards. This is exciting, innovative work that uses your skills in data handling and interpretation, technical writing, problem solving and planning to contribute to real progress in Ohio’s air quality!

You will aid in the development and review of monitoring data, technical documents, cost analyses, engineering guides, policies, and new rules and revisions. You will also be participating on committees and workgroups with other organizations, states, and federal agencies, while assessing results from atmospheric dispersion and photochemical models to support SIP activities, Clean Air Act requirements, or other Ohio activities requiring modeling efforts. You will design and evaluate air quality modeling protocols, execute air quality models, review data, and prepare reports. You will provide guidance and assistance to Ohio EPA personnel and others concerning SIPs and air quality modeling. Additionally, you will perform reviews of federal EPA proposals and prepare comments related to SIPs and modeling, as well as assist in the development of emissions inventory and meteorological databases for use in SIPs and air quality models.

  • Assess results from established dispersion and photochemical models to support SIP activities.
  • Assist in development and review of monitoring data, technical documents, proposals, engineering guides, emissions inventory, and meteorological data related to SIPs.
  • Consult with internal and external personnel, business, and the public concerning SIPs and air modeling.

Qualifications

4 yrs. trg. or 4 yrs. exp. in position involving geology or hydrology, engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science &/or other comparable physical or health science field, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, &/or mathematics.

  • Or baccalaureate degree in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, environmental science, earth science &/or urban & regional planning, geology or other comparable physical or health science field or mathematics.
Note: For all positions engaged in field work, applicants must be able to provide own transportation. New employees in EPA's solid waste program, excluding those in the solid waste planning unit, must obtain a sanitarian-in-training certificate during their probationary period.
