Job Description

AECOM has an opening for an Environmental Technician in our Kenova, West Virginia office.  The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, reliable and have good interpersonal communication skills.  


The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs soil, groundwater, surface water, waste, sediment and air sampling.
  • Performs operation and maintenance (O&M) on treatment systems.
  • Uses field instruments and equipment as necessary to meet health and safety as well as field sampling and O&M requirements.
  • Documents all field activities and notes.
  • Performs subcontractor oversight.
  • Communicates effectively with project managers.
  • Has a high degree of health and safety awareness.
  • Works within defined scopes, schedules and budgets while producing quality work.
  • Maintains knowledge of sampling procedures and protocols in accordance with recognized industry standards.
  • Will work under close supervision of an engineer or scientist.  Work will entail daily and overnight travel to worksites in/near Indiana.
  • Candidate must also be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors.
  • Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative.
  • Field work will be required including oversight of subcontractors.

 

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements

    • High School Diploma
    • Ability to travel up to 90% to various job sites within US.
    • The role is subject to a background check and MVR check, valid driver's license is needed
    • Requires enrollment in the medical monitoring program requiring initial and annual physicals.
    • US Citizen/US Permanent Resident

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 0-2 years of experience in a similar capacity.
    • Associates Degree(s) or trade certification is a plus.
    • Collect and evaluate environmental data in field and office settings.
    • Selected candidate will be required to complete 40 hour HAZWOPER training or annual refresher class, if needed.
    • Selected Candidate will also receive First Aid/CPR training and AECOM specific training.
    • Candidate must exhibit a mature sense of professional responsibility and awareness of accepted standards of professional behavior.
    • Candidate should have proficient technical writing skills and ability to effectively express his or herself orally in project reviews conducted among internal staff.
    • Independent field work.
    • Contractor oversight.
    • Possess strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.
    • Candidate must be proficient with basic computer programs; MS Word and MS Excel.
