OF A PERMANENT CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE OF

LA DPS&C – CORRECTIONS SERVICES (Adult DOC)

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A baccalaureate degree plus three years of professional level experience in a public or private sector setting.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Six years of full-time work experience in any field will substitute for the required baccalaureate degree.
Candidates without a baccalaureate degree may combine work experience and college credit to substitute for the baccalaureate degree as follows:
A maximum of 120 semester hours may be combined with experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.
30 to 59 semester hours credit will substitute for one year of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
60 to 89 semester hours credit will substitute for two years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
90 to 119 semester hours credit will substitute for three years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
120 or more semester hours credit will substitute for four years of experience towards the baccalaureate degree.
College credit earned without obtaining a baccalaureate degree will substitute for a maximum of four years full-time work experience towards the baccalaureate degree. Candidates with 120 or more semester hours of credit, but without a degree, must also have at least two years of full-time work experience to substitute for the baccalaureate degree.
Graduate training in any field will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience on the basis of thirty semester hours for one year of experience.
A master's degree in any field will substitute for one year of the required experience.
Graduate training with less than a Ph.D. will substitute for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
A Ph.D. in any field will substitute for two years of required experience.
NOTES:
Advanced degrees will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience.

Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

FUNCTION OF WORK:
To serve as a special assistant and advisor to executive management. Incumbents will manage the detailed and complex analysis of issues affecting the agency in state legislation and assist with the implementation of policies and procedures necessary to achieve the goals and mission of the agency.
LEVEL OF WORK:

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
General from a Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Undersecretary, Assistant Secretary or equivalent levels.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May exercise functional or direct supervision as required.

Directs or performs the identification and evaluation of state policies in broad and specific categories utilizing state law, federal law, legislative acts, court orders, executive orders, budgets, policy statements, citizen advisory group recommendations, and special commission reports.
Initiates and directs policy research projects involving needs assessment surveys, special purpose questionnaires, citizen participation components, model legislation, and applicable data from other states.
Assists department head with writing of agency policies.
Reviews current and long-range goals.
May make public presentations on behalf of the agency.
May testify before legislative committees.
Represents agency and state on organizations and commissions.
May manage small to medium agency specific programs.
Serves as a legislative liaison.
