Position Summary:
- The Family Finder position is responsible for locating and engaging relatives and connections for youth in foster care. A Family Finder’s goal is to find a relative or NRKIN placement for that youth, but if placement cannot be identified, Family Finders strive to build a community of connections for that youth.
Location:
Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Preferred Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in the social services field and previous experience with children and family services preferred
Licensure/Certification:
- Valid drivers license
- Valid Auto Insurance
- At least 21 years old
Essential Duties:
- Develop a secure, community-centered child welfare system in Kansas using evidence-based practices.
- Implement goals and objectives for the kinship department.
- Train KVC staff, agency partners, and community members on Family Finding and kinship connection importance.
- Maintain relationships with DCF, courts, and community partners.
- Interview children, parents, caregivers, and family members to identify potential connections.
- Attend court hearings to establish relative and kin networks for clients.
- Utilize databases, online tools, and social media to locate relatives.
- Facilitate family meetings to create lasting support networks for children.
- Employ Family Finding strategies like mobility mapping and genograms.
- Complete paperwork within agency guidelines and timeframes.
- Attend assigned frameworks and staffing sessions.
- Monitor children for signs of abuse or neglect and report incidents.
- Provide transportation for clients when necessary.
- Document all client interactions and maintain case activity logs.
- Attend mandatory training sessions.
