JOB TITLE: Food Service Worker
LOCATION: 435 University Ave E, Saint Paul, MN 55130
RATE OF PAY: $17.25 per hour
STATUS: Full Time
HOURS: 5 a.m. to 2 p.m., and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Includes every other weekend

POSITION SUMMARY
We seek a Food Service Worker to serve hot and cold food items to staff, residents, visitors, and volunteers during meal service times. Cleans work areas, maintains food and supplies on the serving line and washes dishes. Provides outstanding customer service to all who enter our kitchen and dining area.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • At the direction of the Kitchen Manager, carries out established Food Service processes and procedures in alignment with UGMTC’s mission and values.
  • Greets staff, residents and visitors as they move through the serving line.
  • Serves food trays to all staff, residents, visitors, and volunteers during meal service times.
  • Utilizes correct serving utensils, portions sizes, and lets the Kitchen Manager know when food is getting low during meal service time.
  • Cleans work areas, including cafeteria floors, serving line, and equipment. Sanitize and clean cafeteria tables, chairs, and all counters on the line.
  • Replenishes foods, silverware, trays, and supplies at serving station.
  • Assists in food preparation, set up, service, and collection of garbage.
  • Washes dishes, equipment, utensils, pots, pans, and other service ware ensuring sanitary handling; organizes and replaces service ware to appropriate location.
  • Operates industrial dishwashing equipment.
  • Bring defective supplies/equipment, and other unusual conditions to the attention the Kitchen Manager.
  • Works with volunteers to ensure proper food handling, safety procedures and service to residents.
  • Maintains co-operative relationships and communication with team to ensure access and positive experiences for UGMTC residents and achievement of program objectives.
  • Supports the Christian values and ethics of UGMTC with residents, staff, visitors and volunteers.
  • Participates in UGMTC sponsored spiritual enrichment activities, including staff prayer and devotions.
  • At any time, with or without notice, performs other duties and activities as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • No education required
  • 1 year food services experience
  • Able to work flexible hours, which may include early mornings, evenings, and holidays or weekend.
  • Experience or desire to work with individuals experiencing mental health challenges, homelessness, poverty or addiction.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Good judgment, self-control and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to read, understand, use and follow safety and other specific instructions and procedures.
  • Knowledge of issues impacting people experiencing homelessness, underserved or at-risk communities.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a culturally diverse community.
  • Team and customer service oriented; works collaboratively with staff in the coordination of Food Service activities.
  • Ability to read, write and follow routine verbal and written instructions.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
  • Work is normally performed in a kitchen environment. Will be exposed to temperature extremes.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds consistently, occasionally lift over 30 pounds.
  • Work is in cafeteria environments with exposure to temperature fluctuation, kitchen hazards, and varying conditions.
  • Work requires standing for long periods of time and repetitive movements
  • Work requires pushing, pulling, reaching, crouching, depth perception, stooping, walking, twisting, carrying, and other physical activities.
  • Moderate exposure to physical risk, which require following basic safety precautions.
