Job Description

Job Title: General Manager

Location: Westport Precision 280 Hathaway Drive Stratford, CT 06615

Reports to: Owner

Job Summary:

The General Manager (GM) is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the facility, driving operational excellence, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality products to meet customer demand. The GM will develop and implement strategic initiatives to improve efficiency, increase profitability, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a deep understanding of manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership & Management:
    • Oversee all manufacturing operations, including production, quality assurance, supply chain, and maintenance.
    • Lead and mentor department managers, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
    • Ensure alignment of manufacturing objectives with company goals and strategic plans.
    • Drive performance management, set clear goals, and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for all departments.
  2. Operational Excellence:
    • Implement and maintain lean manufacturing principles to optimize production efficiency and reduce waste.
    • Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks to ensure timely delivery of products.
    • Continuously evaluate and improve manufacturing processes, equipment, and technology.
    • Oversee production scheduling to ensure maximum capacity utilization while maintaining product quality and safety.
  3. Financial Management:
    • Analyze financial reports and ensure profitability targets are met or exceeded.
    • Control operational costs, and work to increase efficiency through strategic initiatives.
    • Identify opportunities for cost reductions and improve overall financial performance.
  4. Human Resources & Team Development:
    • Work closely with HR to recruit, develop, and retain high-performing staff.
    • Lead training and development programs to enhance workforce capabilities and engagement.
    • Ensure compliance with labor laws and promote a positive company culture.
  5. Strategic Planning & Growth:
    • Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement long-term strategies for business growth.
    • Identify new business opportunities, markets, or technologies to enhance the company’s competitive advantage.
    • Participate in expansion projects and capital improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Administration, or a related field is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Skills:
    • Strong understanding of manufacturing operations, lean principles, and process improvement methodologies.
    • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence and motivate teams.
    • Strategic thinker with the ability to execute operational plans efficiently.
    • Knowledge of safety regulations, quality standards, and compliance requirements.
    • Proficiency in ERP systems and manufacturing software.

Working Conditions:

  • This is largely a production-based environment. Involvement on the floor is paramount.

Pay Range:

·         $125,000-$160,000 DOE
