Position Overview

The Genetic Testing Coordinator II is proficient in procedures and software within the assigned department.  They must perform routine GTC duties, be up to date on current training procedures and requirements as well as able to assist senior staff with advanced duties. A Genetic Testing Coordinator II will consistently display excellence in all aspects of their work and contribute to projects, discussion, and improvements activities.  

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ability to perform tasks per standard operating procedures, with minimal supervision, including: 
    • Manage the pre-approval process and the initiation of testing for all clinical departments.
    • Review all test requisitions for appropriateness of ordered testing and accuracy of data entry.
    • Initiate testing for all accessions that have met prior approvals by ensuring the appropriate test status is selected and necessary items created.
    • Document and provide feedback as required for accessioning and previewing errors.
    • Manage communications through the department email account, chats, and applicable programs.
    • Manage the entire inventory of Active tests, including cancellations and test changes and follow-up on tests placed on hold.
    • Monitor the progression of all testing to ensure quality is maintained and TATs are met.
  • Meet high productivity, quality, and TAT expectations.
  • Ability to set priorities for tasks and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Maintain stringent standards of quality by identifying any issues which might adversely impact the quality of test results, test appropriateness and TAT, and communicating these to the appropriate management representatives.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of basic processing workflows for all clinical departments.
  • Identify and troubleshoot basic problems that adversely affect test results and/or TAT.
  • Support and comply with the company's Quality Management System policies and procedures.
  • Assist with the writing and modification of standard operating procedures to maintain a high level of quality in test processes and results.
  • Proficient in laboratory and application communications software and programs.
  • Maintain competency of required tasks.
  • Assist with the training of new employees.
  • Integrate and apply feedback in a professional manner.

  • Provide feedback on new software updates and new applications through the development and testing phases, as applicable.
  • Troubleshoot issues with software and applications and initiate requests for issues.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Ability to work a designated schedule.
  • Ability to use a computer and associated hardware (e.g., mouse, keyboard).
  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing.
  • Ability to work in front of a computer for up to 100% of a typical workday.
  • May perform repetitious actions using computer equipment.
  • Participate in continuing education and staff meetings. Responsible for own professional development.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Life Sciences, Business, or related field; or High School Degree/General Education Diploma and 2 years relevant experience in lieu of degree.
  • 2+ years relevant experience in a molecular biology laboratory.
  • 2+ years of experience in managing test approval processes and testing workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new skills and techniques.
  • 2+ years using computers to include Internet navigation, email usage, MS Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, or field related to the essential duties of the job.  
  • Coursework in genetics.
  • 3+ years of experience in a laboratory setting.
  • 1+ years of experience working with Quality Management; including strong knowledge of all laws and regulations that are required by CLIA, CAP, OSHA, New York and other related legislative and/or state health departments and organizations.

Salary Range:

$46,000.00 - $72,000.00

 

The annual base salary shown is a national range for this position on a full-time basis and may differ by hiring location. In addition, this position is bonus eligible, and is eligible to receive company stock upon hire as well as annually.
