Moccasin Creek Country Club – Aberdeen, South Dakota

Moccasin Creek Country Club, one of the finest medium market private Country Clubs in the Upper Midwest, is currently searching for a Head Golf Professional. The Club was founded in 1971 and has hosted many South Dakota Golf Association championships and a major annual Dakotas Tour event. The current management team is filled with long–term professionals dedicated to the success of Moccasin Creek Country Club.

Moccasin Creek hosts 18,000 rounds a season with 380 golf memberships in various membership categories, along with 275 social memberships. The Club has 18 holes of golf, excellent practice facilities, a large Golf Shop, two Golf Simulators, Clubhouse with banquet facilities for 150 guests and two member dining and lounge areas. Moccasin Creek recently completed a $6,000,000 Clubhouse renovation that included new patio dining, renovated golf shop, and many other amenities. The Aberdeen population draw in 2024 is approximately 70,000.

HEAD GOLF PROFESSIONAL POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Concept: As the Leader of the Golf Management Team, the Head Golf Professional has the responsibility for the overall management of the golf operation and programs while working cooperatively with all other Club departments and team members.

Supervised by: The General Manager

The Position Supervises:

Assistant Professionals Teaching Professionals PGA Interns

Golf Shop Service Staff Outside Service Staff Volunteer Staff

Compensation & Benefits

· $70,000 - $75,000 - Base Salary and up to $7,500 performance bonus

· Golf Shop Merchandise Concession – Ownership is Negotiable – Sales Bonus will be included if ownership is by the Club

· Lesson Revenue Approximation: Individual and Jr. Golf: $5,000 - $15,000

· Estimated total Salary $135,000+ depending on Golf Shop merchandise ownership

· Vacation/PTO policy: The Moccasin Creek team strives for a reasonable work/life balance. The work schedule allows at least one full weekend off a month, rotating holiday weekends off, and multiple days off a week during the golf season, when practical. Winter months allow for rejuvenating, while staying involved with club activities and programs. The Head Professional will help develop, with the General Manager, time-off policies that work for the golf operations team.

Specific Responsibilities - include but are not limited to:

Golf Operations Management

· Oversee the reservation system, starting, monitoring, and pace of play.

· Track and verify all players and guests, guest fees, golf cars, club care, handicap fees, and other charges necessary, and facilitate accurate accounting and recordkeeping.

· Oversee golf car fleet while ensuring proper maintenance and recordkeeping.

· Develop and manage an innovative tournament program, group outings, and leagues that service all customer segments. Utilize Golf Genius software to enhance tournament experiences.

· Oversee the operations of a well-managed practice facility.

· Provide professional club repair and club fitting services.

· Ensure the proper storage, safety, and cleaning of golf equipment.

· Play golf with a variety of members and/or guests as time and the GM permit.

· Administer the Rules of Golf and educate staff. Promote and provide Rules of Golf clinics to the membership.

· Develop, maintain, update, and utilize member database.

Retail and Apparel Management (Ownership Negotiable)

· Oversee retail merchandise concession in step with the mission of the golf and Club operations.

· Maintain a profitable golf merchandising operation as directed by the GM.

· Oversee development of buying plans and all golf related purchasing with the collaboration of the GM.

· Supervise physical inventories, present a diverse and desirable array of golf equipment, apparel, & accessories.

· Assist in the development of necessary systems utilizing Jonas POS to safeguard inventories and cash.

· Establish accurate recordkeeping policies and procedures.

· Supervise and train all golf shop staff to maximize Member Experiences and sales opportunities.

· Ensure the customer database includes and tracks important dates, spending, sizes, preferences, etc.

· Maintain and attractive and orderly appearance in and around the golf shop, practice areas, cart staging, simulators, and bag room.

· Conduct accurate and timely inventory counts and turn in the information as directed by the GM.

Player Development

· Develop, provide, and oversee an enhanced golf instruction program offering individual and group clinics for all levels. Ensure that the services of a well-trained staff of professional instructors are available where required.

· Develop and oversee player development programs.

· Utilize the First Tee and other player development tools, resources, and materials.

· Focus on programs for women, families, seniors, and juniors.

· Develop and oversee local PGA Jr. League and First Tee junior lesson programs.

· Assist with the training of the full facility staff in regard to player development and encourage their participation.

· Work with GM to develop Player Development marketing at the Club.

Golf Administration

· Recruit, hire, train, motivate, and supervise all golf department staff and maintain accurate payroll records for evaluation and future budgets.

· Ensure evaluations and annual reviews are completed and recorded for all applicable staff and reviewed with the GM.

· Attend staff meetings as scheduled by GM and schedule staff meetings with golf operations personnel weekly.

· Update and maintain golf shop policies and procedures and job descriptions and ensure they are approved by the GM and adhered to and posted in the proper areas.

· Create and deliver communications with the membership as directed by the GM.

· Maintain safety standards and safety equipment within OSHA requirements.

· Assist in the publications of newsletters, informational, and promotional materials.

· Participate in and compile comparison information using PGA data to properly position the facility in the marketplace.

· Oversee the administration of the GHIN handicap program.

· Work closely with and provide guidance and consultation with all committees as directed by the GM.

· Attend applicable committee meetings, BOD, management, and staff meetings when requested.

· Adhere to, enforce, and implement policies and procedures of the Club and its rules and regulations.

· Setup regular written communication with GM to include facility, programming, staff and member updates.

Business and Financial

· Responsibility for the financial and operational performance of the golf shop operations, golf services and golf programs.

· Ensure all financial goals and objectives set by the GM and Board of Directors are being achieved.

· Lead in the development and preparation of budgets, including forecasting and review of all golf operations revenues and expenses on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis.

· Ensure systems controls are in place to safeguard assets, revenues, inventories, and resources.

· In keeping with facility goals, utilize yield management techniques to maximize course usage.

Other Facility/Departmental Responsibilities

· Work closely with all department heads and GM to achieve the goals and objectives of the Club.

· Maintain a close working relationship with the Golf Course Superintendent and collaborate on course playability and tournament setup.

· Assist the Membership Sales Director in the promotion of new member leads and provide a supporting role in assisting with prospective members and orientation of new members.

· Coordinate plans with the Clubhouse Manager and Food & Beverage Manager for food and beverage needs for all golf functions.

Knowledge, Skills and Traits

· In–depth knowledge of the private Country Club–Member Experience.

· Maintain PGA of America membership in good standing in an active classification.

· Fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, Rules of Golf, golf facility operations, and tournament operations.

· Fundamental supervisory practices and principles.

· Act as a role model for all team members by demonstrating the behavior and work ethic expected of all employees.

· Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.

· Self-motivated with desire to promote and market the Club and the course.

· Service and Member focused attitude.

· Experienced in written and oral business and member communications.

· Remain up to date on member relationship management tactics and strategies.

· Utilize the resources of PGA player development programs, First Tee, South Dakota Golf Association and other organizations.

· Experienced computer operator including Microsoft Office, Golf Genius, GHIN administration. Proficient in other applications such as Jonas Club Management. email, social media, internet, tournament and database.

· Maintain and promote a positive professional image within the Club and community.

· Attend conferences, workshops, meetings, and trade shows to keep abreast of marketing and business trends.

· Maintain a credible golf game and remain current on teaching innovations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
