POSITION: HEALTH SERVICE COORDINATOR

SALARY: HEALTH SERVICES SALARY SCHEDULE


JOB GOAL:


The Chandler Unified School Health Services Coordinator is a standalone class supporting and managing the health offices of all schools. The Health Services Coordinator is responsible for providing, within the professional registered nurse scope of practice, overall direction, and coordination of health services by facilitating a climate of health, safety and well-being in the district schools and sites.

As assigned, duties include assisting the Director of Health Services in working with all teachers, support staff and administrators in implementing the district’s health program. Coordinating and attending training sessions for students with special health care procedures; supervising assigned health assistants and providing their annual training, competencies and evaluations; developing a health care plan delineating medical intervention that may be required to safely manage a child while at school; providing problem analysis and risk management for the District; advising and counseling parents, school staff, and students regarding ongoing health and medical problems; conducting in-service training programs; observing and writing up yearly evaluations of health assistants; and, acting as a resource person for health service personnel, parents, teachers, and other school staff. The Health Services Coordinator acts as team leader for other health care providers in the classroom, monitoring health related work, providing training, and performing technical performance evaluations as needed.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid AZ RN license required
  • Two years of nursing experience required
  • BSN Preferred
  • Current CPR/AED certification
  • Must be able to move about campus in case of emergencies; may have to do some lifting and transporting of students
  • Must be able to travel throughout the district daily
  • Must have ability to work independently and make sound judgments and decisions in a wide variety of situations under pressure
  • Knowledge of and adheres to all district and department policies, procedures, regulations, and rules


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • The Health Services Coordinator must be able to perform the following duties: stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, sitting, finger or manual dexterity, repetitive finger motion, speaking, hearing, seeing (with correction), focusing ability and other factors applicable to the job.
  • Employees may be subject to travel, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, workspace restrictions, blood borne pathogens, and loud noises.
  • Employees may be required to lift or exert up to 30 lbs. of force to move objects occasionally, lift or exert 20 lbs. of forces to move objects frequently, and lift or exert 10 lbs. of force to move objects constantly.

CORE JOB DUTIES:


The essential duties listed represent only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the health services department and district.

  • Directly supervising unlicensed assistive personnel in the health office, including assigning and monitoring work; ensuring training; resolving medical conflicts; and conducting competencies, annual performance evaluations and documenting progress, and assigning performance improvement plans as necessary.
  • Delegation and training of medical procedures, in accordance with state nurse practice acts, to unlicensed assistive personnel, paraprofessionals and teachers in the classroom for students who are medically fragile.
  • Reinforces protocols, policies, and procedures by working with unlicensed assistive personnel, teachers, and administrators in the implementation of the health program in the district.
  • Collaborates with parents, school staff, and other health care providers in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for related school activities. Serves as a direct link between Health Care Providers and families to enhance the quality and continuity of health care for all students.
  • Upholds professional standards, laws pertaining to health and/or nursing care, department standards and district policies.
  • Develops a health care plan detailing medical interventions that may be required to safely manage a child while at school by determining what plan of action will meet the needs of the child and the on-site staff.
  • Utilizes established nursing process to assess, analyze, plan, implement, record, and evaluate all nursing care.
  • Administers first aid in accordance with established health services first aid procedures. Provides physical assessments of children on an as needed basis. Assists with screening for pediculosis, scabies, and otoscopic exams by determining screening and referral needs.
  • Identify and report suspected child abuse, substance abuse and neglect per applicable laws and school district policies.
  • Implements school policies regarding communicable disease and infection including exclusions and readmission of students, under the direction of the Arizona and Maricopa County Department of Health.
  • Plan and present bi-annual school staff in-service training sessions which include determining topics, speakers, and locations along with any updates to training records.
  • Submit and supervise Medicaid billing for health purposes.
  • Oversee the hiring process of new health office staff, in partnership with the building administrator.
  • Collect pertinent data needed to submit the Arizona State Immunization Data Reports on an annual basis. Review and audit all student health files for immunization.
  • Each Health Services Coordinator will have the extra responsibility of managing one or more of the following: heat index, training of new hire subs and other health services staff, morning absence staffing.
  • The Health Services Coordinator will perform other duties relating to essential job function as assigned by the Director of Health Services.
