Location: Potomac Rappahannock Camp & Retreat Center, Richardsville, VA

Position Type:     Regular Full-Time

About this opportunity: Under the general supervision of the Camp Operations Director, Supervises, participates, instructs, and monitors the day-to-day general housekeeping of the entire campus at Rappahannock Camp & Retreat Center; ensures all facilities are clean on a daily basis.  Coordinates the turning over of facilities after events and ensure facilities are ready for events.  Works with Guest Service / Office Manager to ensure guests needs / requests are met and applicable spaces are ready and clean for use.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plans, schedules, assigns, and supervises the work of subordinate housekeeping personnel; conducts annual performance evaluations.
  • Works with Guest Services to ensure all guests needs for Divisional Events and rental groups are met and that all spaces are cleaned and ready for use.  
  • Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; cleans sinks and toilets, polishes mirrors, and replenishes supplies. Cleans and sanitizes all living spaces, main office, common areas, and meeting spaces. Cleans windows; dusts and polishes furniture and fixtures.
  • Empty trash cans regularly; collects trash from grounds and cleans trash cans. Oversees and directs the work of summer housekeeping staff.
  • Picks up laundry from various locations throughout camp and carries laundry to the Laundry Room. Inspects and sorts laundry in preparation of washing.
  • Cleans and maintains sheets, linens and tablecloths before and after events; ensures all lines are cleaned and properly stored when not in use.
  • Serves as liaison to maintenance staff and outside vendors; reports maintenance problems and needed repairs to the maintenance staff.

What we are looking for in you:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, And
  • Two years experience performing housekeeping work with at least one year lead worker or supervisory experience, or
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language effectively.

Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing.

Ability to exert the physical energy required to perform the needed janitorial work.

Ability to safely drive a vehicle. Duties are performed standing and requires squatting, climbing, bending and walking.   Any of the preceding duties may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting. Extensive amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) frequently.

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to dirt, dust, disagreeable sights and/or odors, and various temperatures.
