Job Summary and Qualifications

An Infection Prevention Coordinator supports the mission of Presbyterian/St Luke’s Medical Center of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person.

Infection Control Coord is responsible for the prevention, detection and control of infections in the facility. The individual is responsible for establishing, instituting and maintaining an effective system for evaluation and reporting infections in patients. All of this shall be accomplished based on a systematic body of professional knowledge. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

What you will do in this role:

  • As an Infection Prevention Coordinator, you will be responsible for the prevention, detection and control of infections in the facility and responsible for the direction of the Infection Prevention Program.
  • You will be responsible for establishing, instituting and maintaining an effective system for evaluation and reporting infections in patients.
  • You will maintain current knowledge of job-related research findings and initiates or modifies policy, procedure, and practice in accordance with these.
  • You will monitor all publicly reported and corporate defined and reported infection prevention data.
  • You will review and assure compliance with all applicable regulatory, certification and accreditation standards in accordance to current applicable federal, state and local standards.
  • You will collaborate and communicate with other departments to ensure that staff are educated on optimal infection prevention and control practices.
  • You will work in collaboration with Safety Officer to monitor and direct infection prevention practices for construction and other hospital projects.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Completion of Infection Control Surveillance course is preferred.
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is desired, as employee becomes eligible to test for it.
  • Degree in nursing or medical technology, or related field. Master’s degree in public health, preferred.
  • Experience in infection control or related areas such as nursing or microbiology.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other health care team members.
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of microbiology, normal flora, pathogens and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
