The Upper Arlington Public Library is seeking an Information Technology Manager to build and maintain critical infrastructure to Library operations, partner with staff on innovative services and provide exceptional support to both internal and external customers. Our ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills with a knowledge of best practices in library technology and systems administration. In this role, you will guide and work closely with a team of IT professionals to serve our community and staff.

Job Summary:

Oversees the daily operation of Information Technology department, including directing and supervising department operations and activities; evaluating department operational needs; and supervising and evaluating the department staff members. Maintains and oversees the security of IT infrastructure including networks, workstations, server environment and web services.

Essential Functions:

1. Plans, directs, implements, and evaluates the activities and objectives of the Information Technology department.

2. Meets regularly with departmental staff one-on-one and leads meetings to set and guide individual staff and department goals; ensures effective and thorough communication; celebrates staff and department success and works through challenges. Sets priorities in light of larger organizational goals, translating this understanding into meaningful action items and objectives for department staff.

3. Interviews, schedules, trains, supervises, and evaluates department staff in conformance with established library practices. Recommends selection and hiring of staff that exemplify the behaviors and attitudes identified in the UAPL Culture Philosophy.

4. Supports cross-functional efforts as a member of the Leadership Team and with Administration, modeling collaborative behaviors to set an example for staff. Determines the vision and direction for services to be executed by department staff and in some cases system wide.

5. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness, efficiency, and quality of department services and workflow, leveraging formal project management practices to ensure timely completion and proper control of initiatives.

6. Participates in establishing department policies and procedures with responsibility for interpreting those policies.

7. Oversees the maintenance of network workstations and server environment including backup, hardware, and managed services. Diagnoses and corrects problems with hardware, software, and networks.

8. Researches, maintains, and recommends enhanced security measures for library technology systems.

9. Assists employees and patrons in the use of computer hardware and software.

10. Creates and maintains department documentation. Prepares reports.

11. Manages help desk requests from creation to completion.

12. Provides back-up support for Information Technology staff as needed.

13. Assesses budget needs and supervises budget expenditures for the department, paying close attention to cost.

14. Confers with vendors as necessary regarding purchase and use of their products, as needed. Assists in the selection, monitoring, and evaluation of contract services.

15. Works collaboratively with consortium partners and committees.

16. Keeps abreast of current trends, technology, and new professional techniques; participates in activities of professional and related organizations.

17. Ensures building compliance with ADA guidelines.

18. Serves on library committees as assigned.

19. Follows library safety and emergency policies and procedures.

20. Reports maintenance and safety issues to supervisor and/or Facilities personnel.

21. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of Information Technology trends and emergent technologies to identify the proper solutions.
  • Demonstrated strong supervisory skills, knowledge of supervisory methods and techniques.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
  • Competent in the use of Windows-based computer programs
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
  • Valid Ohio driver’s license and proof of insurance.
  • Must be available to be on call evenings and weekends.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Three or more years of increasingly responsible work experience.
  • One or more years of management experience highly preferred.
  • Advanced technology certification is preferred.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

  • The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of libraries and offices, which includes the need for general safe workplace practices with office equipment and computers, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
  • Considerable mobility including, but not limited to, extensive periods of walking, bending, sitting, lifting weights up to 50 pounds. Job may occasionally require handling objects up to 250 pounds.
  • Flexibility sufficient to move and crawl under desks. Be able to handle fine cables.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to perform general typing and computer skills.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate power hand tools.
  • Periodic intense concentration and attention to detail and accuracy require alertness and stamina.
  • Calm and focused handling of interruptions and distractions.
  • Position requires working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Frequent local travel by personal automobile is required.

Hours/Schedule:

Monday through Friday business hours with the availability to respond to situations as needed on evenings and weekends.

Compensation:

$ 67,912 – 84,864 per year. Starting salary commensurate with experience.
