Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct college-wide research for academic and administrative programs and for planning and evaluation purposes under the direction of the Shidler Deans.
  • Design strategies and methodologies for complex institutional research projects. Includes comparative reporting, benchmarking, complex data modifications and updates.
  • Perform queries to extract data, aggregate and analyze data using pivot table functionality or similar, use spreadsheet application or report generator to create moderately complex to complex cross-tabulations and do analyses.
  • Provide comprehensive reporting and clear, concise, written summaries. Design, create, update statistical tables and graphs; perform statistical analyses and incorporate these tables and graphics in report format to support important findings; present reports via web-based dashboards.
  • Research national database sources for use in benchmark and other comparative reports. Conduct scans of state and national data as needed.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to define strategies, methodologies, and procedures on how academic data is stored and collected.
  • Collect data to prepare various administrative and statistical reports relating to academic programs
  • Develop and maintain a data repository that will serve as the primary source for faculty-related and other institutional metrics data as needed for various business school surveys.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to compile all necessary information for national and local business school surveys that are used to rank business schools on an annual basis.
  • Build systems to track data to measure strategic plan activities, and to present this information to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Work independently and collaboratively to compile necessary information required annually by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
  • Provide assistance in the development and implementation of procedures to collect data on alumni for analysis and support for AACSB, national, and local questionnaires.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests for institutional data from college and UH administration and offices, faculty, students, state and federal agencies, other educational institutions and the general public.
  • Evaluate requests for information, identify the need, gather and provide relevant data.
  • Maintain knowledge of and ability to utilize the UH/UHM student enrollment and reporting systems (E.g., STAR/Banner).
  • Maintain data accuracy, troubleshoot data problems which include but are not limited to programming, coding structures, data input and report generators.
  • Work cooperatively with other University offices and external agencies on an ongoing basis
  • Participate in professional development activities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Business Administration, Data/Information Science, Computer Science, or Education Administration or related field and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for researching, gathering and analyzing complex data and preparing written narratives to formal reports and presenting to a wide range of stakeholders; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of statistical analysis methods and techniques, and the ability to apply these methods and techniques to a diverse range of data and administrative systems and processes as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and theories and systems associated with research analysis, data governance, and individual/educational confidentiality and privacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software, utilize spreadsheet software such as Excel, and utilize or learn more advanced data analytics applications.
  • If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  • Considerable knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of computer hardware and software systems
  • Demonstrated ability to perform moderately complex queries to extract/download data to a PC, aggregate data using spreadsheet/pivot table functions or similar & use spreadsheet application/report generator to create cross-tabulations and do analyses.
  • Experience using one or more database reporting tools. Experience using spreadsheets to perform basic statistical analysis.
  • Ability to write technical reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement appropriate research design, use applicable research methods, analyze results, document findings and report results. This includes ability to design, create, update tables and graphs which illustrate information clearly and present important findings, and ability to provide comprehensive written analyses and clear, concise summaries on the findings.
  • Ability to do detailed and accurate work.
  • Demonstrated ability to use graphics and database software.
  • Detailed knowledge of basic student data and the ability to create complex reports pulling from the institutional Operational Data Store (e.g., Banner, Star).

Desirable Qualifications
  • Master's degree with coursework in statistics, quantitative methods, research methods, tests and measurements.
  • Two (2) years of progressive experience in relevant data analytics positions and/or institutional analytics in higher education.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing. Ability to extract and integrate data from various sources (e.g.,Banner,CRMs) into the core analytics database
  • Experience using business analytics tools. Familiarity with data visualization tools (e.g.,Tableau,Power BI) to create clear and insightful reports and dashboards.
  • Ability to write accurate, thorough, well-written reports in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of higher education information systems. Experience working with the University Student Information System (Banner) or comparable system.
  • Prior experience in the area of student administration and/or academic/institutional research in a university environment.
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages like Python or R for automation and advanced data analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and with diverse abilities.
